They aren't considered firearms when you're talking about the Gun Control Act. Also take into consideration that many cities and states DO consider them to be firearms. You've got 3 levels of the law to look for: Federal Law, which covers the whole country; State law which can be more restrictive than Federal law, and city ordinances, which can be more restrictive than State Law. Gunny could explain it to you much better than I can, but since you're being such a doorknob I doubt he'll even speak up.
Just because a website or a patrol officer says they're not firearms doesn't make it so. It would be a wonderful, perfect world if everyone knew and reported the exact truth and understood every law comepletely, but alas, the world is not perfect and people make stupid assumptions about things they don't know enough about. Do your research before you get yourself into trouble.
