Separate in scope from our previous events, MilSim West's Patrolling Challenge will present a whole new level of difficulty for participants.

Not for the faint or weak hearted, this patrolling challenge will run from 1200 Saturday to 1200 Sunday. You will be in the field continuously, acting as a reconnaissance patrol tasked with completing a variety of objectives that can positively or negatively affect your overall mission. Each action and decision you make will have an impact on what happens in the future, as well as your team's overall score.

This will be a challenge based not upon "how many guys you kill" or flags you capture, but on how you act and make decisions under stress and the completion of your objectives.

If you want to run and gun, get a high round count and 'kill rate', this is not your event.

There will be lots of walking, and limited amount of shooting. This event is designed to simulate reconnaissance patrols in the context of a challenge based event.

If you want to be challenged mentally and physically; if you want to be forced to exercise critical thinking and analytical skills under stress, this is the event you have been waiting for.

Attendees should have experience with land navigation, team and squad tactics, be interested in fluid problem solving and exhibit teamwork skills. Further, you are expected to accomplish 24 hours of high stress mental and physical mission sets.

FAQ:

Q. What size is each team?
A. Each team will consist of 12-16 members.

Q. How many teams will there be?
A. There will be a maximum of 5 teams?

Q. Why is each team so big and there so few teams? Why not make smaller teams and more of them?
A. Each team is large like that because it accurately portrays the size of a patrol, as well as it makes it easier for game control. The current plan is for each patrol to have 1-2 lane graders with them at all times, and for at least one of those lane graders to be a US Military Veteran from a combat MOS.

Q. I only have 6 guys, but I still want to go. What do?
A. Join up with another group in a similar position, post up on the event wall saying you need x amount of people.

Q. What will the magazine restrictions be like?
A. Similar to the previous events. Maximum of one highcap, the rest have to be midcaps or lowcaps.

As stated previously, this event will be dramatically different than previous events we have run.

Each team will be running independently of other teams and throughout the 24 hour period will work through a series of lanes which they will be graded on. These lanes consist of:
Recon
Ambush
Civil Affairs/Link-Up with friendly forces
Raid
Patrol Base

Each team will be expected to know:
Squad and Platoon Tactics
Land navigation (there will be a refresher class the morning of the event)
Call for fire (there will be a refresher class the morning of the event)
Passage of friendly lines
Patrol Base (remain over night)
Basic 5 Paragraph Field Order/OPORD

We plan on putting out some training materials to help with training for this event.

For all those planning on attending the Patrolling Challenge, registration will open at midnight on Thursday (Friday morning).

Cost will be $50, there will be no squad discounts as before because you will be registering as a squad.

Each squad will consist of 12-16 members, and each squad will register as a squad. In short, each squad will send payment for their 12-16 members at the same time. A minimum of 12 members will be required to register a squad slot, but more members can be added later.

Registration will be done on a first come, first serve basis - we suggest each team organize and appoint someone who will collect money and register the squad at midnight.

BLUF: Registration will be done a first come, first serve basis. Squads will be required to register as a squad, and pay for all members at the same time. First come, first serve.

There is a lot of interest for this. It may sell out on the night registration opens.

I'm definitely in. If you people were at the last Variable-hosted 24 hour game, or wanted to try a real 24 hour game out, this is for you.

Man up, grab your balls, find a team, and stop being a PVC-tube flipping cute kitty. I'll see you on the field of battle.

There are only 5 team slots for this, so I'd suggest people get on it quick. Three teams have already signed up.

Kevin "No Neck" Butler shouldn't be placed between two tall guys with necks.
