Who cares. This is the dumbest argument I've seen here in a long time. We are well aware of the legislature trying to be passed in California. We do what we can to help support the cause. Thank you.

I believe airsoft guns are already illegal in New York and New Jersey.

Welshy McSheeplove wrote:First, echoing what others have said, California's laws regarding airsoft guns, if they are created, will not leak to Oregon or Washington. Contrary to what ASGI and Evike say, this is not the beginning of the "national ban" on airsoft. All that will happen is that it will make it harder for kids to get airsoft guns, since you'd have to basically order them from Asia. That could be a good or bad thing, depending on who you're talking to.

Second, the current bill would not make airsoft guns "illegal", they'd just make them be multicolored (like the guns belonging to minors in the UK).

Third, this bill hasn't passed the first three or four times. I doubt it'll pass this time.

Welshy, you are most likely 100% correct that this issue will not leak into Oregon or other states just because Californian politicians are being morons. If it did, I'm sure AP would raise hell, and rightfully so. I think that making airsoft guns look retarded is, well, retarded.

As for your last point, though, the person/people who enacted this shenanigan are still in office. As long as somebody upstairs wants this to happen, they'll keep trying until either:

A. They no longer work for the state, or
B. Some mutation of this bill is passed.

It's just like with the SOPA thing; sure everybody can dance around like happy little faeries because it didn't pass, but the guy who started it all still has a job. He's going to try again, and he's not going to stop until he's gone or it happens (Please, no SOPA rants/debates/seizures in this thread).

So, basically, let's hope that either these politicians get fired or somehow (magically) start focusing their efforts and our tax dollars on something a little more important, like, you know, actual crime.

Yep. airsoft is illegal in Jersey. So no point in buying them. Back to the topic. It would suck to paint my guns but all the problems I've seen when I was in Cali was done by kids/minors. Granted there are some dumbass adults but mostly it was kids thinking that they wouldn't get into trouble. I have been out with some kids and they can be fun but I think the age limit should be a lot higher. I guess I'll have to wait and see at Summer slaughter to see if they all act the same up here. I see a lot of minors voicing their thoughts on stuff they can't do anything about cause their not an adult. But I don't want to seem like I think kids are all the problem because I have seen so called adults pointing airsoft guns at people in public down in California. I'm only saying this cause I just spent the last 8 years down there and it night and day compared to Oregon. But think most have said every time this comes up, parents need to be held accountable for their kids so if they act dumb then they won't play.

That's what I mean. Go to him and present him with a new thing, that puts more responsibility on parents and retailers. Raise fines on retailers selling guns to minors, on or off the internet. Raise fines for parents who let their little dipshits run around the neighborhood shooting each other. Give officers the ability to confiscate airsoft guns and slap the parents with citations.

That way, both parties win. We get something not intrusive, that might make an actual dent in parents letting their kids do dumb shit, and the politicians get to preen about how they were "tough" something.

Of course that may just be wishful thinking...

Absolutely. I hate it when I see a bunch of kids running around in the street, making a ruckus and pissing off the neighbors. Parents definitely need to take some responsibility here.

Honestly, I think that brandishing an airsoft gun in public without legal justification or authorization should at least be punishable with a menacing charge. I don't know if that kind of charge exists in Cali, but if it does, slap it on there. When people start getting fined or going to jail for being retarded (as well as having their weapon confiscated), maybe it will have an impact.

Also I definitely agree that retailers should be held responsible. ID should be required, and some sort of verification online should be needed. Honestly, I think they should almost treat it as though they were selling real weapons. Who's going to give a preteen a real .45? (don't answer that)

It's the wrong enforcement angle.

Toys are painted in or made of brightly colored "stuff".

Airsoft replicas lob bbs at velocities which are dangerous (which is why we wear eye pro, right?).

Painting something that is dangerous when used improperly so that it looks innocuous is f***ing retarded.

Man. That's a good point.

But, Welshy is right; the politicians don't care. They just want to look good so they can get elected.

I am glad to see people actually taking this seriously, but I do agree with many of your points. Politicians do not care about airsoft because they just want to look good in the press, instead of tackling real issues. I do understand that it is unlikely that the law will reach us here. However, I still do not like the law and I do not want it to spread.
