Also, to echo what has already been mentioned before, you are going to have a fairly substantial required packing list.

The Army is big on what they call PCCs / PCIs. That's Pre Combat Checks and Pre Combat Inspections. (The difference being, a PCC is "Hey, bro. You got your NODs, sensitive items, chow, and gear?", while a PCI is "Hey, dude. Show my your NODs. Great. Now show me your rifle. Okay. Now, hold up your spare pair of boots...")

It'd probably be a good idea to do PCCs with the element leaders, and have them do a showdown PCI on their guys to make sure everybody has what they need. Set a minimum gear requirement list for safety, and let them layer on whatever else they need for comfort.

Also, if the gear requirements are to heavy for some of your players, you might be able to get away with allowing players to have a duffel bag full of stuff that goes on a truck out to wherever they are doing their RON site, or one duffel bag per 3 guys, or whatever it works out to. That way, they can toss their tents and heavier gear into a duffel bag, run the day's missions, and pick it up at the last rally point before their RON. If the team wants to bring a couple of spare primaries, they could live in the duffel bag, and be dropped off at a rally point if one of the primaries went down.

Also, Ziplock makes ginormous bags. They work great for storing a spare pair of boots, uniform, and other bits that you don't want wet. They are pretty heavy duty, and hold up surprisingly well. They are something like $5 for a pack of 3. I usually carry a couple folded up in my rucksack in case I need to waterproof anything in a hurry, and pack my boots and a uniform in one. I also keep my socks and underwear and t-shirts in gallon sized ziplocks to keep them dry.

For an equipment list, you'd probably want to publish something similar to this (Example, NOT A COMPLETE LIST):

Worn:
Uniform
Boots
Headgear
Eyepro
Gloves
ID card / tags

Carried:
Primary
Secondary
"X" magazines (realcap / midcap)
Comms Gear
First Aid kit (IFAK or similar)
Chest Rig / Plate Carrier / IBA
Hydration source
2 light sources
Map / Compass or GPS unit (2x per team)
Spare batteries for everything
Multitool / pocket knife

Rucksack:
Spare socks / t-shirts / underwear
Meals (X number)
Poncho or Goretex Jacket / Trousers
Poncho liner
Sweater / Polypro / long johns
Medications
Hydration source #2
More spare batteries
Entrenching tool
Spare headgear

Duffel Bag:
Spare socks / underwear / t-shirt
Tent
Sleeping bag
Sleeping Pad
Spare uniform
Spare boots
Meals
Hydration Source

Plan in some time, have a list of things that are important, and physically lay eyes on them. Anybody without the minimum is a no-go.

It'd be cool if an experienced event host did this sometime next month before I leave for basic, but I feel like that's too short notice to happen...

I really enjoyed the 24hr game a while back and was really looking forward to that BSP game with the 3 mile hike competition incorporated into it. Sucks that it didn't happen.

Steve thanks for all your input it will really help in the planning process and thanks to everybody else as well. I am listening to what you all have to say/want in a long term op. Seeing what you all expect i'm thinking I will have to use more then the 3 sq miles i originally planned for. My team and i are on the same page now and so we do agree on doing this, I have their support. we have also considered cutting this down to around 16-24 hours with everyone packing in (opfor being dropped off further up) a friday night and then saturday assault force hiking in (towards opfor, maybe some light resistance) and then saturday night hunkering down (outside of opfor base). pestering the opfor and then at midnight start the assault (say trying to capture the HVT you mentioned) and then maneuver out with the HVT to an extract point by dawn.

Yea I couldn't make it happen that fast. This takes so much planning

Thanks Steve for providing so much info and starter planning for our team, really appreciate it. Its beginning to look a lot more plausible if we do a 24 hour scenario, and a lot more fun.

I agree I think a 24hr will be easier to plan.
