Airsoft in Buildings?

Postby Switchback » Fri Dec 23, 2011 3:49 pm

So, I've noticed how most CQB places look like arenas. Laser tag-esqe environments that are extremely fun, but not as fulfilling as real life buildings.

Are there places in the PAC NW that offer this kind of environment? This would be freaking sweet...

So this is about Airsoft, right? Does it belong in Off Topic? Think about it.

The problem that I have run into in buildings that are not dedicated solely to airsoft is damage to plaster, fixtures etc... We played in a vacant house, and the walls looked like crap afterwards  Had I not been closely affiliated with the owner, we would have had a lot of fixing / explaining to do. I have talked to a number of real estate property managers , the lions share are not real interested in allowing air soft in their buildings. Maybe you could talk Marion county into letting you use their 32 mil$$$ condemned courthouse structure......

This isn't the girlfriend thread.

Also, DJ, I totally see your point. Marion County Courthouse would be cool, but that'd never fly.
I just was thinking how cool it would be to play in places that seemed more real, because no matter how fun the indoor places are, they're really laser-taggy.

I've played at places that definitely aren't even slightly 'lazer taggy'
It's just that none of them are used anymore, for various reasons.

If you want to play in realistic locations, you gotta get them before they are demolished, or play in industrial areas. As Valupta said, they never last long.

The old Fairview hospital site was awesome, however that is the exclusive domain of Salem PD and OSP SWAT now ( what is left).

Its a good idea but you have to find a place that people will want to go back to specifically for airsofting more than once. Heck, refer to the old courthouse as an example- you'd have to convince people that playing there will occur multiple times, you have to consider structural designs, and how you can inter-change different rooms and concepts into one building. If its only good for one game type, it gets boring too fast. Any sealed building can end up feeling laser-taggy if you've got random plywood or pipe laying around for cheesy obstacle effect, and no obstacles to be avoided or overcome.

Short version- consider a building in which obstacles can be created or obstructions altogether, and think about a place where you can get cheesy furniture to make a practical fake environment, not a random piece of wood or corrugated pipe that has no business being in the building its currently in.

I drive by trojan nuclear power plant twice a day, there are two massive office buildings that are gutted and vacant, and have been for quite a while. That place would be perfect for an airsoft game. But, not sure what PGE would allow in the buildings, they do however allow scouting events at the park, and the place is now a park/fishing hole.

Also, any reliable venue will probably be shut down for having open elevator shafts, and people splitting their heads open on HVAC systems.

The MOUT course at Rilea is pretty awesome. I've heard of airsoft games being hosted there, though I've never attended one.

This is exactly the type of thing to do. It's cool to have a complete facility to use with pre-existing rooms, doors, etc., but they turn into liability nightmares if you can even get permission to use the building. Maintainable arena floors with replica environments and multiple, marked exits is a step in the right direction.

Insurance companies do not understand or know how to handle airsoft, so setting up an arena can vary greatly in success due to venue and provider alone. Factor in zoning and getting proper approval from the city to use the space in the manner you intend to and soon you have 2 groups of people who do not understand airsoft trying to decide whether you get to stay open, or open at all.

Yes sir, along those lines, take what happened to Warpaint. One individual with an anti gun stance managed to shut down this facility
