What's the goal?

My original goal was to create a more realistic advantage of packing around a saw all day, via longer distance. And also keep snipers from calling 80ft safety kills on someone.

Now its about proving the safety aspect of increased fps.

So in answer to your question, proving that increasing the saw's fps is not unsafe.

Well, there isn't any reason for a sniper to be calling safety kills at that range. That's not a safety issue or an FPS issue, that's an operator issue and I personally wouldn't accept the safety kill.

The problem with the "realistic advantage" is that most games aren't about realism anymore. There's very little realism about them. If there were mil-sim games that required mag limits, then the "advantage" of a SAW would become much more "realistic", with or without another 50 fps.

If you read my earlier post, you'd see that some hosts are moving towards mag limits. I think some people just find it easier up up the FPS.

If SAW limits go up. Would you allow replicas of 762 and 308 rifles to fire at a higher FPS?

No. That is getting too technical. In all honesty the AK 47 shoots a 7.62 / 39 and shoots almost have the distance that an m16 shooting a 5.56 in the real world. So in fact their fps limits would go down. It all depends on the rifle and if a manufacture would make each rifle shoot at its perspective real world velocity and someone showed up to a game stating that, I would let them play for sure.

Fps is not the highest factor for determining range. Fps is more of stopping power than range. its a stupid argument, airsoft is about looks, not realism, so use whatever gun style you think looks cool, and upgrade it within the safety limits already set.

SAW's should stay at 400fps... Same as all battle rifles...
Will post the same answer when this topic comes back up in the next 9-12 months...

This.

Anyways, when a certain classmate of mine who happens to be named Limpy and who happens to check AP from his iPod in the MIDDLE OF CLASS showed me this, I read it as "FPS limits for all AEG's should be boosted to 450" for some reason or another. Now that I can read the original post on a screen not the size of my fist, I can generate a valid opinion.

Yes, please, REQUIRE a sidearm for bolt-action users whose bolt-actions are running above X FPS.

Also, yes, I guess the FPS limits could be boosted for SAW's, but, as Limpy said (either earlier on in the thread or while we were talking about it to each other), PLEASE require SAW gunners in games where the SAW has a raised FPS limit to be an established and experienced member of the community.

Thank you, and have a good day.
Please, I insist.

That would lead to a lot of political stuff and favoritism Prophet. The "established" member aspect has always been sketchy when determining what is good to go...."What's good for that guy isn't what's ok for that other guy."

What I meant was someone who was not fresh off the griddle into airsoft, and had a general understanding of following directions and not using SAWs as an AR.

Sorry about that, Seagreen. I guess I should probably have clarified what should count as "established". Limpy made a basic summary of what I count as an "established SAW gunner"; someone who understands the fundamentals and can be trusted.

Any requirement not clearly defined or baised upon social standing is going to be controversial at best.

What a bunch of whiney bitches! You know 450 FPS is not a big deal, and it is not unsafe. Wear good eye pro, face pro if you choose. You will not get injured anymore than with 400 FPS or 425 FPS shots.

A 400 FPS shot can take out an eye or a tooth just as well as 450 FPS. I know of 1 confirmed case of a guy getting a tooth blown out with a 400 FPS gun. Wear the proper gear and you will not have to cry and worry about it.

To sit here and say that 400 FPS is safe and 450 FPS is unsafe is shortsighted and just untrue. 400 just becomes the magic number 'cause a lot of other leagues use it.

Higher FPS does equal more range, less drop, more long range accuracy. It's simple physics kid. Put more power behind something and it will go further. If your hopup sucks it wont, but that's a different issue.

If Airsoft is all about looks for you, maybe you should choose another hobby. Something like dressing up and going shopping at the mall. Just don't go to Lloyd that would be too dangerous for you.

Not in airsoft, they don't. That's exactly my point. Either they learn to change those barrels quick after every 100 round burst of 450fps BBs or they can bleeding forget it. :I

Overall, I've never, ever had any trouble using an airsoft support weapon as a support weapon. It's about use and placement. Compensating with FPS is for the lazy and poor-of-skill.

I don't have a real problem with 450 or 400 FPS on SAWS.

However, for the bolt action no safety kill rule, I agree wholeheartedly. I have personally been shot at about 40 feet by a sniper. I turned around and saw how far away the guy was, thinking he had an AEG, decided it was a bad safety kill, and turned around and got shot in the face and thus dripped blood all the way back to respawn.
I was not a very happy camper that day. If the guy had used a regular AEG or a pistol I would have been fine, it's airsoft. Getting shot is part of the game. Getting a cheek piercing was not my plan for the day . . .

Simple physics... You launch a .12 at 400fps you will get less range and accuracy than if you launched it at 300 fps. I never said anything about safe/unsafe, because that has to do with level of gear more than anything. There is nothing definite in airsoft, its all relative. That is physics. If you put more power behind something it does not go further... you have to increase its velocity, not its speed. Try getting an education.
