Excel Joules/FPS Calculator

Postby Eyes On » Tue Mar 29, 2005 1:12 pm

I created a simple .xls file to calculate safe velocity with any airsoft BB weight.

The maximum allowable energy under AP rules is 2.81 Joules using a bolt action replica. (.2g @ 550 FPS)

The maximum allowable energy for an AEG is 1.49 Joules. (.2g @ 400 FPS)

Using heavier BB's slows the velocity down, so if your replica complies with the applicable standard with .2's, then it should also comply with heavier weights as well... at least in theory. You should always chrono your replica before entering the field, or after upgrading/repairing internals / cleaning the barrel, or adjusting the hop-up significantly.

The file is available HERE.

Not at an AP game. That's a "N0ob Cannon".

However, I believe that PSAC allows even faster shooting Semi-Auto Only's.

You need to bring the VELOCITY down to 550, not the weight. 550 is the max velocity with .2's. Anything heavier will travel slower, but hit with the same (or slightly higher) force depending on factors like range, hop-up and some other more technical ones like temperature and humidity.

The max allowable velocity is 550FPS with .2's.

try this

http://www.cimmerians.org/FPS_Converter.html?action=joules

its a different associations website, but the math is the same. i didnt check yours out gunny so i dont know if its the same calculations but it works for determining fps/weight/joules and all that good stuff.

It doesnt have to do with bb weight at all. the amount of force (Joules) stays the same whether you have a .20 or a .50, all that the weight of the bb affects is the velocity, range, etc. So, for example, the standard limit is 400 fps for .20's, and say your gun shoots at exactly 400fps with .20's. If you use .25's, then they will have a slower fps when they leave the barrel, but, they will have the same force as the .20 at the same range.

So, what they're trying to say is that if it shoots at 400fps with .20's then it should be good with heavyer bb's.

If any of this is wrong, please correct me. ;)
