Operation Lion Claws V, who here is going?

Postby DEADLY » Thu Jan 19, 2006 11:43 pm

Well from what I've heard next to Operation Irene events THIS is the one to go to. It's much closer (California) and Col. Danny McKnight and Mad Max Mullen will be commanding just like Irene. So, who's going?

APST is planning on bringing a group to OP: Irene. Even though it is way the hell out in Kentucky, it takes place on an actual military training facility and the insurgents are played by an all-military opfor (basically, the facilities professional training opfor).

I might go to Lion Claws V as well, IF the field looks better than last time. Lion Claws III was in a cow pasture, and IV might have been the same. I don't get that much enjoyment out of a game in an open field. When you can see your enemy 300 yards away and there's nothing you can do about it, it's kinda lame. Chances are, they won't even release any photos of the field and 300 people will shell out $135 on faith alone. Unfortunately, after last time, I'm no longer willing to do that.

Meanwhile, I paid $65 for OP: Gallant Saber 2. We had 120 players, tracked vehicles (not just ATVs with plywood mounted to them) with mounted propane guns and gas M60s on an 80 acre wooded field with bunkers and varied terrain.... And it was right in Washington. The big teams of AP are looking to team up with Battlesim next summer to put together an OP of that quality again in this area.

Honestly, from what I hear about those national games and from the experiences that I have had with playing with teams like AP at home. I would have to say that the guys at AP and PSAC sponsored events rate much higher in my book. Even though there are no big stars like, well, I haven't seen any yet, that stuff does not make a game. Unless someone gets R Lee Ermey. I guess the closest thing to a star would be paintballin William Shatner.........................'s kidney stone. I think I will stay in the pacific northwest. Here's a thought, why doesn't someone bring "Lion Claws" up here??

That's what I'm talking about. Considering that a single day "test OP" at SplatAction is drawing 150+ players, I don't think it'll be a problem to have ourselves a killer game this Summer (And we're already working on the planning and implementation). We just need to get back in touch with the military vehicle collectors and get them to come out with the cool shit they have. If things work out well with Grid18, we can begin planning for a large 2 day OP this Summer.

That would be so cool!!! Wow, would you get to airsoft and night and stuff? And use like tracers?

If there is a night game, it would be optional and not have any effect on the scenerio. A lot of guys are tired by the end of the first day, and running around at night can be very dangerous.

Really? My team (back when we had Springs) Use to do night games all the time. It was great fun trying to just sneak up on the enemy and just tag them with your barrel. I bet this "safety kill" would add a whole new aspect to night games. It would be so SWEET!!!

But then agian... I have only been airsofting for like 3 years so... *shrugs* You guys probebly know better then me.

The night game at OP: Blue Steel (the one before the Gallant Saber series) was amazing. There was about 20-30 guys all with tracers, and it took place on a mostly open field with bunkers all over. Spectators got to stand in the 2 story bunker to watch... I kept getting incoming fire because my video camera gave off light.

We had a guy who didn't have any NVGs at all who did just fine, racked up quite a few kills just by being stealthy.

My experiances with night games have been thus:

Teams run out into the field. Game on is called. Teams move until there is the first sign of incoming fire. Team bunker down and don't do shit at this point because you can't see where the shazaam you're going, and you don't want to run your a$$ to some new cover because there could be someting in the way you can't see, and you'll break your leg.

I love airsoft, really; I've crawled through streams with nothing but my rifle and head above water, I've broken my truck trying to get to a field, I've been pouring money into this activity for close to six years. But it's not worth breaking a leg for.

99% of the night-fights i've been involved in have been utter goatfucks. Alot of gunfire, a couple short range kills, and alot of confusion. Mostly with people that lack night vision gear, or tracers.

:-D there is a reason why I jumped on a cheap nv set-up when i could :-D

Is this the same field you played at in Lion Claws 3?

Call me crazy but Im not interested in traveling like I have in the past.

Heres why:

-Although the field was sub par in the LC3 event, what I found the most distasteful was the lack of player accountability. We all are familiar faces. We are not a jumble of several hundred people that have never seen or heard of each other. With that familiarity comes accountability on both sides of the fight. Honoring a hit doesnt cover what Im talking about, it is an adherence to a code of ethics.

-Players in events are empowered by the leadership all the way down the chain of command. Those that lead should be leading. It isnt about who signed up first. It is about who can do the jobs.

-No where else have I seen better sportsmanship, better events, or player ability than here at home in the Northwest, so why would I go somewhere else to play?
