I showed up late and he pulled up to me, and in a rude manner began running his mouth about it being required that all users of that forest must have a bucket filled with sand or water and a shovel for fire protection. I happened to have 3 commercially rated dated and tagged fire extinguishers in plain view in my truck, and when I pointed out this to him he took it personally!
I wonder if it was the same guy I met?
While returning to my vehicle to reload, I talked with a gentleman from the Department of Forestry who advised me
in a very polite and professional manner that new fire restrictions would soon be in place for the area. He asked permission to place the notices on our windshields. I chatted with him a bit before contacting KA-BAR who also talked with him.
The take away message from what he said is:
DURING THE SUMMER, ALL VEHICLES IN AREAS AFFECTED BY FIRE RESTRICTIONS MUST CARRY:
(this includes the Scappoose field)
-1 gallon of water or a 2.5 lb. fire extinguisher
-1 shovel with an 8" blade at least 26" long.
Failure to follow these regulations could result in a fine.
Even though the Scappoose field is on private land and we have permission (through TommyBoy) to use it sometimes, it's important to the future of our hobby to always be courteous and friendly to non-participants, especially state workers. Remember that people not familiar with airsoft can feel threatened by our replicas and gear.

I had a great time today. It was nice not to be soaked and muddy after a game for once. Thanks to KA-BAR for acting as our stand-in admin and to Alex for his work setting up the skull games and providing the props!
