Welcome to AP! For starter guns, G&G combat machines (~$180) and KWA CQRs ($189) are best for m4s, there aren't any good Scars for under $250. I'm sure you could also look at APs market place for used weapons and gear.

I'm going to disagree with most of what TFVMassacre said.

G&G Combat Machines are nylon bodies. The KWA CQR is a KWA product and doesn't play well with other parts.

Dboys SCARs are great for the money (if you can find one).

Dboys M4's are the bees knees. You get a metal bodied M4 for less than a plastic bodied M4. I've personally owned 6 and they have been great guns. I currently use a Dboys 416 and have not had an issue with it.

Stay away from the Mp5 and UMP for outdoor guns (even though I ran with an Mp5 for the first couple years I played), the longer barrel of the M4 will pay off in accuracy and range.

I also don't suggest buying used from here unless it's from a reputable person. You never know who decided they wanted to do their own gearbox work and didn't put the anti-reversal latch in backwards or without the spring...

Welcome back, hope you enjoy your stay.

Look around, see what other people like and run. I would suggest a KWA CQR personally, I own three and love them. No issues with parts compatibility that I know of. I buy and sell used guns myself, I wouldn't recommend a UMP for outdoors use without a extended inner barrel but if you really want one I can hook you up with a G&G UMP as well as most other guns you might want.

First, OP, is your budget $250 for the gun, or for a complete setup (Gun, Optic, Battery, Mags)?

There are a lot of good options out there, everything has a strength or a weakness. There is a lot to like in the G&G Combat Machines. While the DBoys guns do have metal bodies, they don't quite have as nice fit and finish as G&G. Check out the GC16 series if you want a G&G with a metal body.

I don't know what is wrong with the CQR and the Combat machines, I've owned two CQRs and one combat machine and they performed great. More so with the KWA. And I haven't had any problems with parts compatibility. But that's off topic for this thread.
