You can often get a very fine AEG packaged with magazines and sometimes accessories for a good price. If you need help finding where to look, PM me. I'd be happy to help you out. I've picked up a VFC M4 with 10 mags for $180 (the guy didn't know what he was selling, yay Craigslist and indebted doctors) and a G&P with really excellent maintenance for $250, including 12 mid caps, a battery, a charger, and various other small accoutrements.

Patience will get you a long way. :)

If you want an M249 over a Mk46, I'd suggest getting an A&K/CA/E1. The main/only reason to get a G&P SAW is because they are the only company that makes a 100% externally accurate Mk46. If you just want a normal M249, any of the other companies are a better choice since box mags aren't as spendy and the GB stands up to more abuse (my G&P Mk46 went about 200k rounds till the GB needed an overhaul).

I actually have an A&K 249 w/ 2 box mags I'll be selling ;)

I run an A&K M249 Para and it has never let me down. For about the first 4 months of playing Airsoft all I had was my SAW. It sucked humping it up and down the field in squad rush, but its A LOT of fun having a virtual BB hose.

Just be for warned CQM with a 249 is like trying to repair butterfly wings with a hammer. I normally just spray the room then move to the next, yes it's messy and very crewed but it's cheaper the tossing a frag every time I have to walk in to a building and it gets the job done.
There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.

Yeah in regards to the G&P m249, i've heard nothing but good for the quality of them. AK, E1 and CA last i checked were not strong enough externally and internals were on the good but not great side.

I wish i could test out different brands before i buy one lol....

Yeah Variable i was actually thinking that was the only issues with the tornados. So best bet is just stick to Thunder B for now and worry about the AI grenades later?

TM master race checking in...

But anyway, the biggest issue with the G&P 249s is that they use a standard (albeit G&P) Version 2 gearbox, and they just aren't the best gearbox for a gun that's going to go through thousands of rounds per game. The dedicated SAW gearboxes are a bit tougher and work better for the purpose of being on full auto all the time.
