TM Five SeveN on propane?

Postby EnarahRovaaniik » Wed Sep 18, 2013 5:45 pm

I'm interested in purchasing a TM Five-SeveN and would like to know whether or not it would run well on propane. I've heard from some people that because of the design of the slide it is prone to cracking when using propane. Is this true?

For the most part, you never want to use propane in a TM GBB. Green gas should be alright, but it would be best if you use duster gas.

Actually I've *HEARD* the opposite. That the 5-7 cycles fully and operates better with propane, green gas just doesn't do it. I've seen YouTube reviews on it and I've met people at OAA with then and I've actually used one, they are magnificent GBB pistols.

Green gas = Propane + lubricant

Green gas has a slightly lower pressure than propane (150 psi vs. 135 psi, if memory serves correctly.) Plus green gas is typically lubricated better than lubricating propane since you don't have to worry about using too much or too little lubricant. Now if only green gas wasn't much more expensive...

TM GBBs from recent years, what I've heard at least, can handle green gas just fine, so that might be your best bet. If you do use propane though, just make sure you know how to lube it correctly.

Green gas is typically 10-20 fps or lower than propane.

I typically use the following guidelines for TM pistols, based on outdoor temperature:

Above 65 Degrees: Duster gas only

Below 65 degrees: Green gas or propane is okay, but tend to stick to Duster anyway.

Below 50 degrees: Green gas or propane.

The Five seveN is probably one of the most hit-or-miss TM pistols, for whatever reason. Some people have a lot of problems, others have none.
