M733 Build

Postby EnarahRovaaniik » Sat Aug 24, 2013 7:36 pm

For some reason, I really like the M733, and an airsoft version has peaked my interest recently. I've looked around for a good quality, yet affordable M733 but all there is is the JG and I'd prefer not to test my luck on one. So I've decided that since I am soon getting a KWA CQR Mod 2, I can easily do a good build with that. The only issue is that I'm unsure of where I could possibly buy an A2 upper. Could anyone help me out here?

The JG is actually a fantastic clone gun to buy. I owned one. Nice and solid. Here's a little writeup from an old post of mine:

I had one of these a year or two ago. I was incredibly happy with it, as it was only $130 (for me). A good buy, to say the least. I'd personally stay away from the metal body unless you plan on beating the living daylights out of it. If you have any of the following, it is worth it:
Rails with a lot of accessories
An optic (even though most plastic bodies have metal rails)
A long fore end (regular M4-M16)
An M203
A full stock
A sling mounted to the front swivel
An abusive personality

I would stay away from them if you don't have those previous accessories; the M733C is so short that there isn't a huge risk of snapping the barrel off of the upper receiver, and the metal buffer tube is really on there pretty good.
Only problem you are going to run into with this specific rifle is the two-piece hop up. If you have really high spring tension in your magazines, then your two parts may separate. Take into account I never had any feeding issues with mine, but I use standards and midcaps.

I'd also stay away from the buckings; ASGI "Enhanced" JG's come with Madbull Blue Bucking IIRC, so you don't need to change anything there.

TL;DR
It's tough, you probably don't need it unless you are front heavy.

Unless you're hanging crap off it, don't bother. I'm running a TM M4A1 from 2005-ish and I run it hard. It receives the same treatment as my Dytac, which is CNC aluminum. Don't shy away from the JG.

Well the only one I've been able to find with the proper A2 upper is the metal one but it's slightly out of my price range. I'd be more than glad to spend a lot of money for a good build, but I'd rather not spend it all at one time. So anyone know where I can get an A2 upper?

The A2 upper isn't actually the correct one to use. You want the even older, A1 style (with a forward assist and brass deflector). The G&P is a more accurate replica of the M733. The problem though, is finding one in stock. I just did a search on all the big overseas retailers that I could think of and came up with nothing :(

G&P does make a rifle that has the correct body, but you'd need to swap the barrel and stock to make it look right. At that point, it might just be easier to get a JG not notice that it's not 100% accurate.

But I've noticed the upper on the M733 has an adjustable sight, which would be the A2 upper, no?
Oh well, thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

The A2 is adjustable for windage and elevation, where the A1 only adjusts for windage.

Yes, and the M733 is adjustable for windage and elevation, so the M733 uses an A2 upper.

To be honest, i don't know all the differences your talking about, and looking for. But for an older style short rifle, why not look at the Echo1 Sog-68, uses an A1 upper (i think it is) and is a well priced AEG that will run like a raped ape. Also has that cool retractile full stock that is spring loaded.

I've looked at this quite a bit, it is really cool, though I really want to have an M733.
So no one knows of anywhere I could just buy an A2 upper to slap on my CQR?

Well would that really be considered an A1 upper though? It has a brass deflector unlike the A1, and it doesn't have the proper forward assist. Still no where I could find an A1 OR an A2?

You're thinking of the M16 receiver, which lacked the deflector, forward assist, and ribbing next to the magazine release.
The M16A1(XM16E1) model added these(as well other improvements). The Colt M733 uses at M16A1 receiver with the forward assist and brass deflector.
I believe the XM177 may have used the M16 receiver.
