AEG Battery

Postby Jmonday » Fri Aug 16, 2013 3:23 pm

I don't know if this should go here. But recently, I've stopped playing Airsoft, and now I'm back into it over the weekends. Lately my battery has been slowly depleting over time(I'll put the battery specs. below), I can play around half a day with it then it slowly stops. Before it could go all day. I'm not the type to go full auto, and I only use semi-auto to save on BB's and battery life. I checked my internals and the gear box is good and my piston gets a-little hot at times, but no major problems. I'm thinking it's just from not playing awhile and I just need to drain it and then re-charge it. Am I right? Or should I get a new one? I bought it last Feb.

I'm planning on playing tomorrow though out the entire day, it's NiMH, so I'm guessing it has to memory of the charge. Any ideas?

This is what I have:
8.4v NiMH 1600Mah Chain Mini Airsoft Battery *edit* It's made by Airsoft Outlet NW

This is what I was thinking to get:
9.6v NiMH 1500Mah Chain Mini Airsoft Battery

The Charger is also a Airsoft Outlet Nw Universal Smart Charger. There is 2 settings, o.9A and 1.8A, I keep it on 0.9. Could that also be why?

Batteries have a shelf life. Yours is probably getting old and not holding a charge as well as it once did. If you want a battery to last all day, get a larger MaH battery. If space is a problem, get two.

You may also revive that old battery a bit if you discharge it and recharge it again on a smart charger.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty

Thanks, I'll just spend the night shooting bottles in my back-yard. Because it doesn't come with a dis-charger.

Also, charging a 1500 maH battery with .9A is insufficient. Try the 1.8A setting...

shooting your gun will not fully discharge your battery, it will only discharge your battery to the point that it wont fire your gun. an easy way to fully discharge your batteries is to make a lil harness and hook up a lil light bulb an 1157 tial light bulb from your local auto store works great. also your local hardware store will probly be able to help with this

Kinda old thread, but I've tried doing that, and I think it ruined the battery. It works fine now that I keep it on low settings and got another 9.6 to help aid in the fire-rate.

Thanks, but I bought a dis-charger and everything works excellent now.

This is a contradiction for the instructions that came with my smart charger that says to charge all batteries below 12V need to be charged at .9A. I have charged an 8.4 on 1.8A and now I don't own those batteries anymore due to them being damaged.
I'm a major chairsofter, sorry about that.

Yeah, other people on different forums said to try different settings, and I did, and I think thats why.

I have heard that smart chargers sometimes do not detect completely dead batteries. Try using the "dumb" charger that guns come with for an hour and then plug the battery into the smart charger.
I'm the osiris of this.

A smart charger on MIHM for a NIMH battery should have no issues as long as it is enough above dead zero to register. If the battery is flat it would be a good idea to hit it with a trickle charger and bring it up for no issues.

Lipo on the other hand, if discharged too low if may show up as a lower voltage pack requiring some time on NIMH to bring it back up then switch to lipo.

As for charge rate, .9A will be fine, it will just take longer to charge. for the 1500mAh pack 1.5A is 1C where 1.8A is slightly higher. 1C is recommended for NIMH. Different charge rates can give slightly different characteristics.
