New potentional camo patern?

Postby JoKeR1147 » Thu Apr 18, 2013 6:57 pm

So I heard from some friends of mine that the army is in the final stages of selecting a new camouflage pattern to adopt. Is this true? Are they going to transition from multicam already? Some people are saying it will be some ADS pattern, but I just can't believe that with the sequester they are going to change camo patterns AGAIN. What do you guys think this will mean for the milsim world and current multicam loadouts? I had initially been planning on ordering a Cye CPC, low profile blast belt, Gen 3 uniform set, and various pouches in multicam this weekend after finally raising all the money needed, but now if this information is true it seems that will all be for waste.

I never saw multicam as being the one to replace ACU. I love multicam, I just can't imagine the whole armed forces wearing it. Although there is word of digital multicam.
I'm the osiris of this.

See, im the exact opposite. I never really liked multicam but I can totally see it as replacing ACU. Also, I don't think this change is for the entire armed forces, just the army. At least for now anyways.

The current pattern is UCP (ACU) for the Army. OCP (Multicam) is just a holding camouflage that is specific to Afghanistan, only.

They are down to four finalist companies, which are each producing three schemes, and an optional fourth for OCIE (gear). They will have everyone in a transitional pattern (high desert, similar to Multicam), with an additional desert and forest/jungle pattern. The gear will work with all three.

The four finalists are Kryptek, Brookwood, ADS Inc / Guy Cramer, and Crye.

Kryptek looks like snowboarder camouflage, and is popular with hunters. Brookwood looks like watercolors, and I haven't heard much from them. It looks a lot like San Marco camouflage from Italy in WW2. ADS Inc has a generic digital set, with larger pixels and fading added, and Crye will most likely produce a 3-pattern Multicam-esque set.

The Army has decided on a pattern, as PEO has sent the winner to the brass. Those in command are sitting on the decision due to budget cuts and whatnot.

There is a petition to force them to pick a pattern publically, here:

Very nice summary! Basically ties up everything I've read/heard so far. So what do you think the army is going to decide on? Personally, as far as the Kryptek stuff goes, I would hope the army learned its lesson from UCP and doesn't go HURRR DUURRR WE CAN INTO FUTURE again. I mean sure, it looks cool in urban environments if your trying to look like some Cell operatives from crysis or another random sci-fi game, but otherwise it just looks silly. The ADS stuff looks really bad IMO. Plus, are they really going to start issuing four different sets of kit for each pattern? Or will they most likely adopt the transitional pattern from the winner? I understand the need for different camos for different theaters, but the money that would take would be insane. Some Army national guard units have just barely transitioned to full UCP. Plus the sequester and everything....In any event, if crye is coming out with a new multicam pattern then its probably best to hold off on buying any new kit for the time being then, until the dust settles right?

We're not going to see Multicam going anywhere anytime soon.

Do you think it would be a wise investment though to go and start buying multicam gear at this point in time? Or would it be better to hold off until June when they announce the new pattern. From what I've heard, even if the army sticks with multica, crye isgoing to revise the existing pattern. Also, for some reason the tab key doesn't seem to want to work on AP, at least for me.

They sat us down and did a presentation showing I was getting a whole new tri pattern camo issue that looks strikingly like Marpat when I come back.

Jus' sayin'. But that was like 4 months and 1 government sequestration ago. Too bad we're too broke to buy it.

Till the next new hotness comes out.

There's no real set pattern to when something is in fashion or not.

You have alot of experience with different plate carriers, would you recommend the JPC or CPC? I just don't want to spend 750 ordering a CPC and then have them switch plate carriers before I even get my CPC in the mail.

I'd get a CPC if you plan on carrying a decent amount of stuff. A fully loaded JPC looks silly and defeats the point of the thing. It's not really meant for carrying around a shit ton of gear.

They won't be switching PCs anytime soon. CPCs will probably hang around for a while. Shit, they still use the MBAV (EPC) and that thing is more used than "someone's" mom.

Okay thanks! Of all the colors they make the CPC in, multicam allows for the greatest number of options in-terms of working for different kits right?

Correct. The same applies to the JPC AFAIK.
