Step up from a chest rig

Postby oxide1 » Sun Mar 31, 2013 10:34 pm

I've been wearing a chest rig with a hydro backpack attached to the back. The problem is that with the hydo pack being attached to the straps vs an acual back like on a plate carrier there are so many straps it is a tad complicated to put on and take off quickly(just to many straps.) I want to step up to a rig with plates but not a full vest, something with a front and back Molle area and a little more Molle relstate on the front than a chest rig, but I'm afraid a basic plate carrier might not have more Molle space on the front than a chest rig. Just looking for some options.

Boonie hat all the way.

May I suggest the HSGI Wasatch/Weesatch or Woosatch-A/Woosatch-E? They have the flexibility of a chest rig, with the real estate of a PC; and it is a PC, but sometimes I wear it (Woosatch) without the plates and run it like a chest rig. I find it versatile and doesn't restrict any movement.
I do hope that after all this discreditable shuffling we may be taken into action. It has a wonderful way of reconciling a man with himself: and with everybody else, sometimes. - 1st Lt. James Dillon

EPC (or a clone of one). Take off the cummerbund and bam. Or an MBSS (or clone of one).

Personally, I'd get a PC with a cummerbund. It helps from keeping the back pull the front up or vice versa. Nothing says you need to use all the MOLLEs on the rig.

Two vests in that area that I've enjoyed using in the past:

1.) BDS Tactical Simple Stacker chest rig
-Has six internal pockets with button-open flaps. The button open flaps velcro in, so you can also remove those to use bungee or just open holes. internal single pocket has zipper opening. admin upper area is a flap that comes down or up depending on your preference. Great, thick shoulder pads. The lead and production time takes a while with BDS as they custom make their stuff, but they have some sales that are fairly good, fairly often.

2.) Black Hawk! Industries (BHI) Commando Recon Chest Harness
-Comes with option of straps or a back plate holder. Front holds plate with the bib in the up position. Plenty of real estate for MOLLE.

Plates in the front of an RRV (or a clone) are stupid uncomfy.

BDS is GTG though. They make some solid kit.
