I've been thinking of switching to a Russian kit, just to try something different from the flood of M4's that I've seen. What's a bare-bones, semi-realistic looking impression that I could try to pull off? I'm thinking BDU's, chest rig/vest, gun, and the other little things that would make it look somewhat authentic. Any thoughts/inspirations? The biggest issue I've run into is just the lack of clear, ocncise gear lists. If I can just get a list of commonly used equipment, I could probably go from there.

The Rushing Russians in Washington (RR-COM) have some very detailed gear lists and tons of photos. They're also in your neck of the woods, from the looks of it.

Our team has some information as well, but our gear requirements are narrower, so the kitlist isn't as complete.

Another series worth watching if you are "into the Russian scene."

As a matter-of-fact, they're legit. Commonly used by both Russian paratroopers and mujaheddin during the Soviet War in Afghanistan.

This is airsoft. We're not issued our gear, we have to buy it.

The most important thing for the Rushing Russians is reppin'--show up to events, Davai hard, and follow the RR code of conduct.

Each RR chapter has a specific loadout usually suggested, but everything Russian is more or less okay to start out with. If you can't afford a Russian loadout as far as gear initially, start off with some Russian cammies and an Ak47 or 74, with RR COM and most chapters suggesting modern rifles (AK-74M).

If you're going to wear and/or use specific things that aren't commonly used by the Russian federation such as AKSU's or ChiComs, then you better get the whole period-specific loadout to not look like an airsofter who just wants a tiny AK or doesn't want to pay $100 for a legit Russian chest rig.

RR has a Facebook page already listed that is a great place to ask questions about specific loadouts or pieces of gear that are being used and are milsim.

Calm down, Swansea, it could be worse. There could be Russian accessories on a M4.

I downgraded my PKM by cutting three coils off the stock spring and the it chronographed at 385 fps w/ .20g BBs.
