Getting started

Postby Berzrk » Mon Dec 31, 2012 9:43 pm

Been interested in airsoft for 1-2 years but haven't actually started. I guess you could say I have been like a "chairsofter" as I have researched a ton but lack much hands on experience. Hopefully I can change that soon.

I bought a G&G F2000, 2 flash mags, 7.4 lipo, smart charger, and some bbs to get started. I like tinkering so I have already opened up the F2000 and fixed a few things(semi wasn't working right). I can tell that I will have a lot of fun working on airsoft guns.

Still need some proper gear before I go to a game, but I am really looking forward to it! I live in the Vancouver, WA area;any fields within an hour drive around here?

Also if anyone knows a good full face protection setup that lets me use the F2000s iron sights please let me know. I tried a save phace mask but it didn't fit me very well.

Thanks, and Happy New Year!

Err... Congrats on your G&G F2000. I've had mine for 1 year now and it's really been a pain in the a**! That semi-automatic issue came back for me almost every game - the gun even got jammed 5 times at OP: Sundown II. I removed that lever on the side of the gearbox which kept causing the rifle to lock up. This removed the semi-auto function in the rifle but also prevented the rifle from jamming like mad hell, it was sort of a trade-off for me. Hopefully you don't run into the same problem.

I'm pretty close to Vancouver and most games are a little more than an hour away, you're mostly going to be taking Highway 14 West to I-5 South so the drives aren't too killer, just long.

As for the face protection, I have an ACOG replica on my F2000 and this setup seems to work pretty well with it, you just have to get a bit close to the optic. I've also used a Holographic replica and it was pretty tough to use but still worked. I'm not sure that this would work with the iron sights though but once you get some .25s and your hopup dialed in you are going to want an optic with a tall mount, trust me. ;)

Thanks for the reply Icepick.

I bought my F2000 used(Was a floor model) and only payed $220 for it. I actually had issues with the semi locking up/burst firing right after I started shooting it. I just needed to shave the cutoff lever a bit, and add a shim to keep the gearbox pressed forward. Also a 7.4 lipo helped it cycle more reliably. I have shot around 800 rounds from it and it seems fine now. I guess I will have to use it in a game to really test it though.

You don't really need gear to get started. Just some good boots, eye pro and a way to carry water.

A sling wouldn't be a bad idea either since the fishgun is rather big.

Instead of a full face mask what about half face with decent goggles?

We, Camp R&R, are within an hours drive as well as Snipersden. Splat Action might be about an hour and fifteen.

Go to some of the smaller games, IE non milsim, then you don't have to have all the big gear, just jeans and tee shirt if need be. That way you will get a feel for what others are wearing and don't make my mistake and get a full uniform of Real Tree (I never wear it any more, more for hunting in oaktrees and what not)

Welcome to AP. See you out on the field.
