airsoft field construction

Postby Reaver » Mon Oct 08, 2012 4:48 pm

I am starting construction on my airsoft field, namely my first Bunker/structure. I'm namineit dagger point because of the fir tree its being assembled around and that it is on high ground. I am needing atleast 48 pallets for walls, large posts for corners and support beams, and a sat dish. Major front wall is 27' long, and will be 2 story, with 3 lower doorways and a ramp leading to second floor. If any one has some spare materials let me know, or a line on a crap load of spare pallets.
When in doubt, empty the mag.

We've got a bunch of pallets just taking up space. I'll see if I can get them. Where is this field, and are you able to pick up pallets?

Also Redzaw was trying to offload some a while back too. Don't know if he still has them or not.

also if you go to industrial areas, often there are stacks of pallets left outside that you can snag. Never have had an issue with this and at one point one of the companies started bringing them over on a fork lift and leaving stacks of them on our patio. (we were using them for firewood on our porch fireplace)

Not to be "that guy", but how are you securing the two story structure? You're not planning on making it out of pallets are you?

Two story structures on fields have always been super sketchy either due to improper construction or maintenance.

Lol. I can see potential issues with structural integrity if I used only pallets for the building. Fortunately I have a background in home remodeling and construction. Only half of the structure will be 2 story, there will be several support post's to carry the load of the second floor, about 10' apart anchored to Simpson strong tie post brackets secured to the ground via concrete. The pallets are not intended for load bearing purposes, only for walls. Pallets are free (normally) whereas a 4x8 sheet of 1/4" ply would set me back $12 each.so saving money on the walls, and investing into support joists instead.

And I have an issue going over kill when building things too.
When in doubt, empty the mag.
