the reality is setting in

Postby Reaver » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:09 am

After pouring over forum threads, window shopping at various websites, and cruising over airsoft videos on you tube (mostly AP related ones) I have realized that I am seriously under equipped to go to any events coming up. Probably going to take me a couple months to get totally outfitted for it, as I am starting from scratch on every level...and I can't train/practice unless I have all the gear I'm going to wear to a game.

The list of thing's that I have on my list so far as must haves
condor recon chest rig
Eye pro
Camo set (be it ACU or multicam)
decent boots
6 spare primary mags
Backup gun with 4 spare mags
3 spare batteries
smart charger
Surplus ammo supply

So after adding the cost of everything, its doable but going to take time. If I am going to be target practice for you guys I'm going to atleast make you work for it ;).
When in doubt, empty the mag.

Boots, BDUs, gun, spare mags, spare battery, tactical vest or LBE with something to hold water... all you need.

The list looks like you've thought it out. The only thing I would suggest is that, if you're running hicaps, you probably don't need 6 spares. If you run midcaps, that's a good amount.

For your secondary, you probably don't have to have 3 spare mags to start. I carry that many and often use them, but not everyone does.

Have you thought about gloves and/or a sling?

The other thing I thought I'd mention is that 3 spare batteries is a lot. I'd go with 1 good one in the gun and 1 good backup. I've never needed more than one backup battery.

If you're running midcaps having a speed loader or 2 is handy.

Otherwise, welcome to the horrible money sink of a hobby that is airsoft.

Spare mags for primary gun would definitely be mid caps, as most of the events I have been looking into state midcap only limitations. Spaced the sling on my list but I already have that eyed out at wholesale sports (or whatever the name of the place is that used to be sportsman's warehouse) for $50. I have a motto I go by and that is do it right the first time. There is no sense in buying cheap gear to use fora few games and then buying upgraded gear 4 months later. And airsoft isn't nearly as spendy as some of my other hobbies. My banshee is more expensive, as was building a car for auto cross and road rally LOL.

And if anyone says I should have bought a better replica I did my research, the guts are what make the difference, not what label is on the outside.

You are not ever under equipped to go to an event. Most of the events coming up have positions available for street clothes. So camo isn't even needed.

Things you MUST have to go to and AP event.

A replica airsoft weapon.
A power source for that airsoft weapon. battery or gas or your arm for spring power,
bb's for what the field requires.
water and snacks.
good attitude.

Everything else is for shits and giggles. You don't need a vest, you don't need a plate carrier. You won't be the only one to show up without all that stuff. My first event i went to i had a woodland field jacket, realtree pants, old hunting boots, my AEG and 1 mag. And i had the best time ever.

Eyepro? I sure as hell wont let anyone in to one of my events without eye protection, and I rather doubt anyone else would either.

Make sure to separate your "wants" vs "needs".

My first outing ever I was in jeans, black long sleeve, my gun and a single hi-cap. I felt a little out of place at first with everyone else all decked out in full camo, plate carriers, spare mags, etc. but it all doesn't matter once you start playing. Sure, camo is nice but it didn't stop me from tagging people with bb's. It was still a blast. Ever since I started (which really wasn't that long ago), I slowly have been acquiring all of my wants.

Needs:
eyepro
Gun with at least one hicap
Battery
Charger
BB's

I use ANSI rated eyepro that I bought from Amazon for < $10. Eventually you can kit yourself out with spare batteries, mags, scopes/sights, guns, camo, etc, etc, but when you're just starting who cares. Go out there, have a blast and shoot people!

Good attitude always. May be spiked by a pot of coffee and a couple red bulls. But I never got into hunting , so camo is pretty much non existant for me at the moment, as are hunting boots, I have steel toes that I wear for work but that's no good.. I am just looking at the events and saying " if I want to get serious about it, then this is what I have to do". I also take in to mind when I first started paintball...started with the street clothes and a Walmart brass eagle semi auto. It was OK, but I wanted more, wanted to push myself to be better. Unpleasant memories of eating paint and walking back to the dmz blind due to paint smudged all over my goggles lol. I finaly built a spyder that set me back 500 in parts and another 300 in gear. That's about the point I realized I needed to adjust my gear setup if I wanted to really start playing hard...

Anyways sorry about the rambling, I just see and read what works for to be good and I remember what gets you sent back to the dmz quickly.

LOL I've still got 2 old autocockers, an Angel, and a Phantom kicking around my house.

They're right, though--you don't NEED any of that to play. You'll be happier coming out with a pocket full of mags, a black shirt, and jeans while buying your gear then not even playing while buying your gear. It may even cause you to realize where to prioritize your buying.

I rocked one of those tri-shot shotguns with 4 shells and a gas Mac-11 with one magazine for the longest time and had a great time at AP events. Just get really good with a speedloader, all the tac gear is just fluff. BDU's don't hurt, but OD/tan pants with a black or green shirt never steered anyone wrong.

I guess i will get a cheep pair of black cargos and a black Polo, couple spare mags (my hicap is retarded ATM.) And a decent battery and my old vforce mask. On the plus side got a promotion and have a new vehicle on Sunday. Maybe even do some mods to it and make it more Tactical looking.
When in doubt, empty the mag.
