what makes a good airsoft field?

Postby Reaver » Mon Sep 17, 2012 3:16 pm

I was wondering what makes a good field. Bunkers? Size? Layout? Theme? I am curious as I am trying to put my own field together, as I have access to about 2-3 acres of wooded area with varying terrain and would like to start using it next spring. Any ideas on what I could do to improve the area are greatly appreciated.

I would love to see alot of bunkers/pill boxes. Trenches, and a field with no black barrie bushes. A plus would be some buildings, and no big hills. 8)

well this video is pretty sh**y but it atleast gives an idea. Obviously taken with my crappy phone.

I that I had 70 acres. unfortunately my funds are limited (especialy with this economy) so i have to make do. so materials that I know that I can get away with would be 55 gallon plastic barrels and i may have an idea on how to build a modular system using pallets and thin plywood. basicly be able to tear down and move all structures at the end of the summer and re-assemble the next year.

Whatever size field you possess having large chunks of the underbrush cleared out is welcome. This prevents people from eventually settling on paths & encourages more movement.

I would think your game area could fit around 20-40 people and work fairly well. You're definitely going to want to rely on your natural features. You will want to keep trees free of thorn bushes (makes it a lot easier to use them for cover). Any plywood type cover should be used on the smaller trees and other types of cover such as barrels, tires, etc should have kind of their own area 20~30ft away from other pieces of cover to make them a challenge to assault( these types of fortifications will make games more enjoyable and add a unique twist to the field, due to the facts trees all look the same). If you need any more advice I'll be glad to help since I'm in a very similar scenario.

It has been roughly 6 years since any sort of maintenance has been done. I have invested my last 2 weekends clearing under brush, cleaning up sticks, etc. I have a long ways to go, but the center area is almost cleaned up.

And barrels were on the list as well, however i am kicking the idea around for a scenario layout given the overall size of the area and the way the road cuts through. There was one spot I could picture a "check point", and another spot I could picture a mock barracks. Maybe if I get a rough map drawn out on paper it would help with positioning everything accordingly
As far as players on the field at once, atleast 30 for full field use, as we have had around 20 paint baller's on the full field beforesplit in between 2 teams and people got lost or just dug in and the game went for hours with no action.. really sucked waiting in the staging area that whole time with no gunfire to be heard.

Legit shitters and showers, along with trash services are a huge plus in my book. Something I really liked about Wendyland (don't know what the field is called).

Size doesn't mean a thing if the layout of the field is horrible, so overall I think it's the layout of the field that will make it great. Like ensuring that if a field has kill zones, that the offensive side has difficulty getting to the area they need to setup said kill zone. Some fields have issues with a whole area being a off limits zone to a degree because if you enter it you'll almost guaranteed be shot. If a field has an area like that, you might as well just block that area off.

Also if the parking is close to the field that can also help, it's nice to store things locked in your car instead of leaving it out in the middle of no where during play.

The field doesn't have a formal name per se, as it's private property up in Orting, WA. Still a good point though.

Not that you can really control it, but does your field have cell phone reception?

Cell phone reception is great. Not sure if you were referring to the location of my field, as its in Salem, OR. Shitters and showers could be an issue, but its only a 12 minute drive to downtown, and about 7 to taco bell..

Yeah, trash is very nice.

it's always awesome when you're the last one to leave and end up packing out everyone's else's trash. Nothing like cleaning that shit out of your interior.
A field with trash service is a great plus in my book.

Sounds like I'm going to be stuck doing just a day game thing. No big events. Good practice field though. Port-a-shitters may get expensive, but if I could plan an event I definitely would rent shutters. Showers could be an issue, and garbage service solved by burn pile lol. So now I just need to finish cleaning brush and chopping dead. Limbs, an then figure out where to place some bunkers....maybee get a few pictures and measurements and plan a few things out

What happen to shitting in a hole and covering it?

I think a field need's allot cover(I don't see how trees could ever work). Seriously tho It needs to be clean with no cow shit(Ivan ;) ), or any type of trash. I portable toilet would be nice or a outhouse. I don't want to worry about getting my tool shot when I'm taking a piss. Another thing is, and this might be just me, but a small town would be nice, along with some woods surrounding it. It would also be cool if the building were multistory as well. Well that was my two cents. :D

Size, and unfortunately, how new it is. Fields get overplayed quickly.
