name and branch tape

Postby Mindspeed » Fri Aug 10, 2012 8:44 am

Question from a noob.

Would it be frowned upon if I have the following

Name tape: MINDSPEED
Service tape: SUPPORT OUR TROOPS

never having served in a military branch wouldn't feel comfortable having say a us army service tape.....
But also don't know acceptable protocol in airsoft community for that spot on a uniform.

And yes I realize its just airsoft but it would be my personal choice for showing respect to those that have served.

Thanks

I don't think anyone would have a problem with that. Usually the issue vets have is when people wear patches/ribbons/tapes that they did not earn. Generic stuff doesn't matter, almost all of the larger airsoft teams have custom patches and nametapes and such.

I think a service tape probably won't get you in trouble, even if it has a branch on it, as long as you're not telling people you were part of something you weren't. As it sits, I think your current idea is harmless. People will probably appreciate it. :)

You're right, but camo is more necessary than nametapes, and camo is very helpful in airsoft if you know how to properly utilize it. There isn't any reason to have tapes, since few people are going to take the time to read what the little writing on your chest says. There's a reason that few people wear nametapes on the field. You can have them if you want, I'm just saying it's not really necessary, and there are better ways to show who you are on the field.

You can get butthurt or sarcastic all you want, you asked a question. I gave you an answer. You can take it or leave it, but I doubt you'll really take any suggestions that are counter to your beliefs, since you already appear to have made up your mind.

Oh, and "Support Our Troops" likely will not fit on a tape, or if it does, the writing will need to be small. But a little piece of fabric isn't showing respect or support to servicemen, that's about as silly as those soccer moms and suburban people who slap those yellow ribbons on their cars. You want to show respect or support, send some soldiers some care packages, or donate to a Wound Warrior fund.

He's right. You asked for an answer and he gave you one. Don't get all upset because you didn't like it.

Those yellow ribbons people put on their cars really do nothing to support the troops.

Donating to either of those charitys or funds would be a much better way to show any support.

The only name tape i find somewhat necessary, is team name tape.. But you should know what people n your team look like. I hope..
