HESCO bastions?

If pay attention at all to the wars in the middle east, you see FOB's with these HESCO bastions everywhere. Every article I read about them say that they're are very cheap. Im thinking "cheap to civvies, or cheap to the military industrial complex?"

So does anyone know how much these things cost? Anyway for civvies to get ahold of them? It seems like they would make a pretty good implacement and really add to the Milsim of an event. Having an actual FOB made of HESCO's would be pretty damn cool.

Any ideas you have on this would be appreciated.

They are not expensive. Think of Farm Wire fencing, make it into a 8'x8' square or what have you. On the inside of the fencing is a rugged cloth/cardboard like material. Tough to explain; but they are durable and long lasting. Once you have your square set up, you fill it with earth. Most FOBs or COBs have them on as their exterior wall along with T-Barriers. National Training Center uses them as well.


They are an excellent, cost efficient way to build a field.

Edit: (Obviously the wire in question is stronger than Farm Wire Fencing) Also, not totally sure if that material could handle Washington's constant drizzle/rain weather.

I have access to plenty of farm equipment to fill them, some of which I own myself. So, thats not toooo much of a problem. And yes, I do have the flatbed and truck to transport them to the field with too if need be.

I understand what they are, im just trying to see if I can buy them ready made. Easier that way then having to make our own.

The Hescos come in a few sizes as well. The kind of fencing they use is a guage slightly less than typical farm fencing for Goats and what not and you'd need either some tough wire cutters or a torch to cut them into the shapes needed.

You can definitely make them yourself it will just take a long time to do, tedious really. They definitely beat the hell out of sandbags though.

Check these out, whenever I see HESCO I think of these panels, 2 and some landscape cloth ( to keep the dirt in) would do the trick I think.They are sold locally @ WILCO, Costal etc....

I agree very tedious but cost efficient; plus you get the cosmetic aspect of a FOB. We've been hesitant to consider it because of the weather here. When thinking about it though, there is some extremely heavy duty netting we've been looking at and I can imagine that might keep it durable through the weather.

Can create a nice size AO filled with different buildings by just using these. Easy, but very tedious work.

Chad you and I both know that filling HESCOS without equipment will suck. The nice thing though is all the HESCOS here on KAF hold up really well during the rainey season. All the dirt seems to get packed together more and once it dries get much much harder, If you are really worried about runnoff a good trick is to had canvas to the tops of the HESCOs or line the tops with old burlap sandbags. It absorbs the brunt of the water and allows more even distribution of the rain, almost filtering it. Tricks of the trade

I think if you could get some T Barriers or cheap or even just enough to surround a TOC tent you'd be good. Hell make the sucker look like COP in the middle of a village!

The COP idea is one we will be using already; but with the added confidence in HESCOs we'll be able to make it that much better.

Looking at Hesco's site, I found these floodline units. These may keep up longer in this rainy environment, but I'm betting they're a lot more expensive.

Also, these are cool if you have enough rocks/material to make an aesthetically pleasing outer structure.

I cant seem to find anything on prices though. It seems you have to be an organization in order to buy these things.

Edit: I did actually find some ebay like sites offering "sets" of these for about a 100 bucks per set. Im just not sure how many HESCO units are actually in a set.

Bought professionally, the least I found them online is at $15-$35 a set.
