The Association of Competitive Airsoft (ACA)

Matchups? Invitationals? Nationals? Has this been around long, or did this just pop up out of nowhere? Do we have anything like this in the PacNW?

Discuss the ACA. Ridiculous? Intriguing?

EDIT: Switchback doesn't take a stance on this, just looking to start some discussion/let people know about this.

they have like 4 pages of rules and with how competitive they are making this sound hit calling is bound to be a problem.

other then those problems and if its on a good field it might be fun. It would be great to hear an opinion from someone who has actually been to one of these events.

Sure, prizes and trophies sound cool, but if you really want those you have to be aware of the consequences. Be prepared to have airsoft turn into a paintball-esque style game where everybody has cookie cutter gear, a set amount of ammo, and limitations on their weapons. (I know some might argue that those 3 issues already exist, but just imagine it to more of an extremity.)

If this thing is making a move to the PNW, at least make the games separate from our current setup so that those who don't want to attend these style of games don't have to. The class system and weapon tiers sound like fun, but I'm just not a fan of trying to jack up the competition.

Class system and weapon tiers? Sounds to much like call o' duty.
I'm a major chairsofter, sorry about that.

I didn't bother clicking the link. These sorts of organizations keep popping up over and over. They'll get a bunch of 2-3 member teams of 15 year olds, then the prizes/sponsors/tournaments will simply fail to materialize.

Better yet, they could BE a 2-3 member team of 15-year-olds that don't understand the implied logistics of the whole mess. It's always the same shit.

Check out their forums...hardly any posts.

You know, if you want to play a sport like this for money or prizes for the winners--go fuckin' play paintball. There, at least, there's a mark left on you. Sure, you can still cheat, but at least there's something. A guy who runs out in the open right through a fire line will notice he got hit, at least, from the paint...unlike airsoft.

Airsoft is for fun.* Can we keep it that way, please?

*Oh, and for wussies who don't like pain. Airsoft doesn't really hurt compared to paintball.

Seems like Team Fortress Classic in real life. Only if the engineers could build sentry guns.

From my research thus far it seems competition play is a touchy subject. A lot of people worried it'll turn into paintball; or perhaps the potential ease of cheating.

What if there were different "divisions" or "game styles?" Take for instance you have the basic head-to-head as they show in the videos.

Would it be more interesting for the "scenario" players to compete in a objective based game where it was teams vs. field staffed OPFOR?

Point system would have to be achieved through some kind of formula. I.E.

-Elapsed Time
-Casualties
-Enemy Kills
-Perks used/Lack of perks used
-Amount of rounds fired
-Overall Flow of the Operation

These would be added/divided/multiplied/subtracted what have you and would equal your teams overall score/points.

Thoughts?

Spoken like a man who's never been hit in the teeth. Or a bare knuckle.

As to further complicating the rules, Chad, that's been done. Airsoft pacific used to hold CQB competitions which often involved scenarios and objectives. Fact is, those were very different from what the above is displaying. I think those guys will devolve into speedball.

Spoken like a man who's never been shot with a paintball. It's like getting punched really hard by a midget, as opposed to the bee-sting feeling of a BB. First shot I took and I was bruised in rainbow colors for about 2 weeks.

5 players max? Weapon restrictions dependent on respawn times? Classes?

M4's with box mag's as far as the eye can see is what I read. Cool concept sure, but the way the rules seem too rigid to allow anyone to really branch out and do different/unique things. I'll be interested in watching a match or two to see how they play out, not too high of hopes though.

EDIT: Upon further reading of their rules...
"Clothing, patches or any other accessory that displays crude or crass remarks, curse words or indecent images are strictly prohibited."

"Melee equipment must be made out of flimsy rubber or plastic with no sharp edges or points. Players may not throw/stab/slice at other players. Simply tap the players shoulder with the item to indicate they are out. Melee items cannot exceed 12 inches in length."

“Home-made” equipment is not allowed."

Bruises and soft pain make me shrug. I really don't mind paintballs. It's the sharp pain like pellets in teeth, knuckles, joints that really bothers me.

You want to see the scars, punk?

I was playing paintball in 1988. Yes, 1988. That was before you were even bleeding BORN, kid. I've taken BBs and paintballs to the bare face and knuckles. I know what I'm talking about.

I'm willing to bet that I've been hit by more projectiles in the head than your whole body has been. Hell, I've even been shot with a real shotgun.
