I like them. I'm not saying everyone will.

Also, unless I missed something, he has an M4 so taping mags together doesn't really work.

Again, mearly my two cents.

Personally, I use two opentop kangeroo mags, and then thread two velcro fold over mags onto those. That way, you get 4 mags you can quick draw, with 4-8 mags, if its a double stack mag pouch, in the fold over pouches. you get the best of both worlds, and you get more real estate on your chest for other things, like more mag pouches lol

Taping M4 mags does work. In the past, we would take the cardboard box the rounds came in, and use that as a spacer, then electrical tape the mags together. Of course, we use BBs, so you can use whatever else you'd like in airsoft.

Or you can get the clamps, which are designed for M4's.

I'd say go with Taco's. I bought some a while ago and has had 3 of mine hijacked for the last 2-3 games we've gone out to. If he isn't crawling around, he is running or rolling into cover so he can begin crawling. The price on them can be a pain, but if you plan on using different styles of rifles down the road (AK's, G3, M14's and all that jazz) you are really saving some money.

I've never been in a situation in airsoft where having an open-topped pouch would have saved me over using a closed one. Concealment is almost always cover in this game, so you have the time to spend the extra, oh, half-a-second to open a pouch. They also keep your magazines from falling out and keep them cleaner.

They of course aren't "tacticool", but practical seems more like a better option if you're not going for a specific impression. They're also way cheaper than the fashionable tacos, which are hilariously expensive and not worth it for people who don't want ONLY TEH BEST in tactical gear. I mean, hell, ALICE pouches still work fine.

I'd get a TACO or two (but not the china ones as the suck tool) and then put the rest of your mags in closed tops. If you're in a situation where you need to quick draw more than 2 mags, you're boned anyways.

Don't listen to Vogon, he's just bitter that ALICE is as cool as it once was ;)

Before I got to fat to reach, I ran close top on front and shingles on the sides. Double the draw side, single on the gun side.

I'm too fat to reach back now so I run double shingles on front and a mix on the sides.

Just do what they did in heat and elastic everything to you at weird angles.

I would say go with traditional bungee'd shingles.

TACOs are kinda nice, but they are really bulky and have no give. I've never been a fan of things without give. That being said, I use some TACOs right now. I'll probably sell them as soon as I get better pouches. They are definitely overpriced.

Personally I run two replica Fastmags on my belt and velcro-closed pouches on my chest rig. After rolling and sliding around on the ground at multiple ops I've never lost a mag off my belt and they are INSANELY easy and quick to reload. When you have a spare minute, transfer mags from the chest rig down to the fastmags and you're good to go again.

This Eagle pouch has served me well.

You can close the pouch with velcro, or do it this way:

This way, you have very fast draws, or you can keep em closed for riding in a technical, or running around, or playing CQB, where you need to keep track of your mags.

Oh yeah- Tacos are overrated. I'm sure they are a great pouch, from the gleaming reviews, but these seem to fit everything I've encountered so far.

The right open top pouch is great. You don't have the right ones if you are so irritated with them...
