Looks like it was well-organized and story intensive. Very cool.

I like it. People getting into it really helped. 35 countries and it sounds like English wasn't the only language being used for planning there.

Now before we hear the same argument here of "We should have events like that here"/"Wish we had this here", look at the cost break down, read this:
http://www.berget-events.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6867

Roughly 2k-4k to attend. Of course, $170USD is the fair to attend (ticket only), which I think isn't horrible, if it's an annual event, and has all of this built into it. 4 solid days of immersive gameplay.

I think with the way airsoft is growing in the US, this could become something that we can see on the West Coast in about 5 more years. We already have some Lion Claws that are working towards this magnitude. The biggest issue for Oregon/Washington is the lack of available areas to fight like this. I think they basically built the villages and structures, and supplied the vehicles. That all takes capital.

People say they want events like that, but then they either don't show up or won't pay for events that people try and put on.

For example, we had two close quarters events this year that were posted with a lot of time in advance. Out of all the people that say they want quality CQB, only two teams pre-paid (possibly only one to one event).

Put your money and your time where your mouth is. If you really want something, put some effort and money into it yourself to make it happen.

All the major large events in the US seem more speed ballish.
I read some "stories/reviews" of a huge game in the midwest that everyone was bitching that they had to guard some road or patrol somewhere while knowing people were fighting on the other side of the field.
Everyone always says they want games like this, but they want to be always pulling the trigger as well.
Also, they all start bagging out of hte game after a few hours.

I watched most of these when I got up this morning:

8 part series-ish of handheld footage of Berget 9.

You don't jump into putting on an event like this, you have to build up to it.
You think they charged $100+ for the first lions claws events? Do you think they had 1000+ people at the first Berget event?
The answer is no... Event hosts like this build up a reputation over time, and build up there event size, event budget, and in turn event cost over time. We can have events like this. The community won't jump on it right away, but think about the big events from the past, think about the on-going event of the present, the sizes are growing... Ash Bash 5 was a great game, It was better than 4, 3, 2, and 1. SOTA has progressively been putting on better games, and unless I miss my guess, attendance has been up with each year that passes.
Think about events like Conflict Europe series, or the Project Nephilim series, as the event reputation grew, the events pulled more people. there is no reason we can't do events like this you just have to build up to it.

Oh I'm sure they have people at that event who like speedball too, they just don't show them in the video.

They did, but they also had like 10 different groups you can sign up for. One of the groups was a Ranger group, and was made to satisfy the speedballers like Welshy and Snowman.

I would say Eastwind was more milsim than Berget, because the uniform and kit requirements were much more strict.

If there was an Eastwind type event that was based on modern units, that would be tits. Kit restrictive, and allowing various groups to be PMC/Ranger/SOF/Line units/Eastern bad guys and done well... *drools*

Too bad everyone wants to be Rangers or SOF.

For now. I think Rentax is right. We have a lot of really cool OPs that are regular, yearly things. They have a following. So we raise the cost by $1-$3 this year and $1-$3 more the next. That small a difference won't get noticed, and I think that if we budget carefully and the game hosts use only enough money to cover event costs then in a few years we'd have enough to build a couple more buildings, a nuclear bomb prop or two. After ten or fifteen years, with a following growing and AP reaching out to forums for states further away, we could have something like this.

Time, effort, discipline. Y'know, the stuff we all want the other guy to have. This could be done.

North Carolina has Fulda Gap. The field is duel Paintball and Airsoft. They hold both events on different weeks, and this last year (went to it) we had I think 800 people pay. Its a decent sized field, but its more of a WWI skirmish lines fight it out before people realized digging in the ground was smarter then standing in lines. Regardless of the game style I think Fulda Gap isn't talked about as much because we really don't have milsim in the region and while defiantly not speedball (you die you walk a long ways up hills for us flat landers) it has that sense. Regardless I hated leaveing early to get home so I could come over to Kuwait.
