M4 pouches, Which one?

Postby Gator » Mon Apr 16, 2012 1:42 pm

Ive recently bought a plate carrier, And am in the market of pouches for my M4 mags, After doing a little bit of looking around ive found some pouches i like, And basically came down to the open top pouches that have bungee cord holding the mag in, Or using the ones that use velcro to close the pouch and hold the mags in, Obviously there is some advantages over eachother, But any help please? :D

Double stack or tacos. Tacos are cool.

I use M14 pouches 'cause they have dividers in them.

The big thing TACO's have going for it is that it is adjustable to hold any type of mag you put in it & not worry about having it fall out. Like shingles, these allow for quicker draws over closed-top pouches. Closed-topped pouches keep crap from getting in your magazines, which is a good idea if you're going to do lots of low-crawling on the ground. Figure your playing style & mag placement then buy accordingly.

It's the only way to carry all of the mags.

I crawl alot and am also kinda a freak about spead reloads. Ive got one velcro pouch and have used it before. Mags were a nice fit and didnt wiggle at all. But also slowed down my reload time by a good amount of time.

Closed-top on your front to keep your mags free of crap and shingles on your reload side to quick draw.

Jungle tape them all together.

That way, you can reload faster and won't need to spend money on mag pouches.

Just duct tape. Or electrical tape.

And what Android said.

Thats a very good idea. I might actually consider that.

I would not tape mags together because it isn't as quick as you would think. I would spend the money on a bump pouch and Phantom Aggressor pouches from Evike. I have these:

and they are great. I took the over the top retention strap off and the mags are still snug in the mag pouches. They are easy to put on and fairly cheap given the quality of the product.

That's my two cents, take it or leave it.

AK users generally tape the mags side by side, with the tops facing opposite directions. This could be because Russians don't do anything that makes sense, but it's probably because of the rocking motion with an AK mag.

With any magazine, you can space them out, so the switch is painless. Airsoft Outlet NW has crampers you can buy:

I'm not so sure about those pouches you linked to.. hmmm

I run a single shingle type row on the first layer. On the outside and over to the reaction side I run closed top. I draw from my shingles(unless I know they are dirty) and bump mags up from my covered pouches.

Everyone has something they like. You will probably change things out a few times. Before you move things around, establish a motive and be disciplined about trying it.
