Fictional Gun Company

Postby TheFerrariKid137 » Sat Mar 17, 2012 6:55 pm

Howdy, I'm working on a Business Project and I need input and was wondering if i could get some help from the community. So my Project is a Business plan for a Company who produces Fictional Airsoft Guns from media (games, books, tv series, movies, etc.) If such a company existed and bought a mass market of fictional guns (including weapons from Halo, Gears of War, Starship Troopers) would you or do you think other people would be interesting in buying them and/or using them on the field? would prices for the guns affect the usage of them in a game? or do you think such a company would delude airsoft and take it away from realism, making less people likely to buy them. I personally think it would be a great idea and doing so would open endless possibilities for new scenarios (battle for Endor), recreating famous scenes. Imagine being on the field and seeing a full squad of people with Halo Spartens outfits, carrying a Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle, SMG, Shotgun and Sniper, you can't say that'd be bad a$$. so please leave some feed back on what you guys think.

LPEGs might make it, say to the Big 5 crowd. As far as organized airsoft games, your above statement is perfect. You've heard the phrase CODsofter, yes? HALOsofter isn't any better. ;] Aim for the <$120 range and you might make a profit, but you'd want a high end realism line, too, I think.

Han Solo's blaster. Easy. Base it on a Luger like Lucas did. Who gives a crap about realism, basically we run around in the forest and play war. Can't take ourselves all that seriously.

But if this is something you want to do as a real business, then keep it affordable so the fan-bois can buy it. I think plastic bodied conversion kits based on existing cheap Chinese guns would be the most viable and be the leanest startup you could do.

But if you're trying to recreate guns from popular media you're going to have to get licensing agreements, which won't be cheap. And they will probably only want to deal with well established companies at that.

Your best bet is to design custom conversion pieces, establish a track record of success, then approach the Halo people for licensing. Think Airsoft Surgeon but if much, much less expensive.

If you end up successfully producing a decent BR from Halo, let me know, I'm working on something special :D

Considering the mass of halo fans, I think most of them would buy whatever it was no matter what the price. And as said above, licensing for all those guns would not be cheap. And if you did get it to work, we would get a lot of HALOsofters joining the game. That would not be such a good thing for all the more serious players... But I do think a Battle of Endor scenario would be AWESOME! :P

While interesting in concept, it prove to be very risky as collectables could sell like hot cakes or sell like liverwurst. The risk versus reward could potentially be to high to make it worth it.
But personally I would enjoy and purchase interesting toys.

You would need a pile of money, that's for sure. Production is not cheap. I'd also probably ban the use of sci-fi or video game guns at strict mil-sim events if they became more prominent, much like a WWII event would restrict to weapons from that period only.

But how often do strict Mil-sim games show up anyways?

Oh, 4-5 times a year. It depends on the host and what they want, but I would imagine if they are trying to make a realistic experience for players they would not want Halo guns out there on the field.

It's a Mauser C96, not a Luger.

I'm so with Matt on this.
I don't care if you want to host a "Star Wars" themed game, or a "halo" game, or a "fallout" game.
I don't care.
Hell. I play many of those games.
I just like to keep my peanut butter and my jelly seperate.
It's already hard enough to buy into the illusion of MilSim when my oppenant has a clear airsoft gun and is wearing tennis shoes. Please don't add a phaser, or blaster to the equation.

I think the concept fills a great niche. One that I would even consider visiting, but please keep it out of my G.I. Joe fantasy.

Hopefully i'm not taking this too far off topic, but in certain situations, tennis shoe wearing kids running around with hopefully-not-clear guns make great insurgent/rebel forces.

Who else has noticed the similarity between the Libyan rebels and 13 year olds?

(In VA at the field i play at, they have a lot of younger kids at the regular weekend games)

I like the idea, but as mentioned before it's already hard enough to get into Mil-Sim because everybody thinks it's their god given right to play airsoft. But you do have a good idea, and I'm sure indoor CQB fields would allow those styles of replicas which would probably help you make the dough, yo.

Before you even start this you gotta think about your target market, funding, demand, and all of that fun stuff. How many people are going to want to spend $200 on an Assault Rifle from Halo 3? Who knows...

Assuming you could work the licensing details, indoor places would probably be the first place to look at selling these.

Imagine being able to run HaloSoft events in a halo-esque field with Halo-replica guns. The gamers would be crawling out of the woodwork, especially if you also had facilities to run Halo LAN tournaments. Now, I have no idea what setting all that up would entail (mostly because I don't play Halo), but it might work out for you. And probably would work better than trying to focus on individual consumers.
