Thinking of coming to portland oregon!

Postby DELTA0125 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 8:24 am

Well, airsoft is getting old up here in alaska so I have decided that me and a team mate one of these summer days shall take a trip to portland oregon and play a game or so with airsoft pacific but I have a few questions first:
I REALLY want to use our GHK AKM's at the game which would run on 12 gram Co2 capsules they generally chrono at about 430-435 for the first few shots and after that start settling around 380-390 FPS wise, the reason we are going to use Co2 instead of propane mags is cause we will need them to play up here anyways and I dont want to buy a few tanks of propane only to leave them behind on our return trip to alaska. ;)
Anyways, the question is with the FPS settling at 380-ish can we still use the AKM's even though they chrono around 430 for the first few shots if need be we can "bleed" the Co2 a little out of the mags before playing oh and we will most likely be using .28-.30g bb's as well in the GHK AKM due to the accuracy being off at longer range with lighter bb's.The reason I am asking is we really want to start playing airsoft with GBBR's instead of AEG's and if you must know I do have an Echo 1 P90 and a G&G F2000 currently but as I said we want to start using GBBR's.

Thanks,

-Mike.

The smaller canisters of propane for camp stoves are only 3 bucks, sometimes up to 5 at most. Why not use one of those?

The weight of the BB doesn't matter, chrono limits are tested with .20g, usually the chrono operator loads a few into the top of your mag. Now, if you are shooting at 430-435 or even 380-390 with those .28g, then you are way way over the limit. We measure limits based on joules, the amount of energy behind the projectile. So it's important to note that just because you are shooting a higher weight BB which lowers your velocity, that doesn't mean it passes the field FPS limit.

Here's an FPS/Joules table for reference.
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=30957

For example... with our limit of 400, a gun shooting 400 with .20g BBs should be shooting 340 fps with .28g.

Yeah, I read through the rules before even registering.
The FPS listed is with .20g my point was that the first few shots as to be expected using Co2 will be somewhat high but will settle down to around 380-390 FPS before starting to drop to to low pressure in the CO2 cartridge.Such as with my WE M16 I only get about one to one and a half mags when I fire it.I know the propane cans by coleman are about 2/$5 up here and down there about 2/$3-$4 but the reason I decided against propane is cause I dont want to leave it at the game and just litter the field and I also am unsure of how to dispose of it properly after the game as I am sure there will be plenty left since me and the team mate I am bringing only use semi-auto for the most part. Also I decided on Co2 mags cause we need them to play in the cold anyways up here and can only use propane 3 months out of the year where we play at and I dont really think that playing one game with AP in oregon would be worth justifying spending $960 for mags that I cant really use when I come back up here. ($960 + shipping mind you since it is 8 mags x 2 people at $60 each)
Yeah, sure the Co2 mags are $65 each but I can use those pretty much anytime I use my GBBR up here. :D
Again I am not trying to get around your field limits I am just trying to find a way to use my GBBR at the field also even though the gun has full auto if we are using semi-auto only would it qualify as a DMR? I mean some SR-25's even have full auto on them...

Hmm, well the propane is a non issue, somebody would take it off your hands. But you made it sound like you already had the magazines, those are definitely expensive. Unfortunately DMRs have to have full auto disabled completely, it's a safety issue and in most cases required by the insurance companies who insure local fields. If you went to a pickup skirm and asked the host, they might let you, but it's up to them.

I'm sorry to say that if it didn't pass chronograph at an OP event, it wouldn't be allowed. I haven't heard about CO2 lowering in FPS after a few shots, maybe it's a climate thing in Alaska? But I'm not really sure, nobody really uses them here because they almost always shoot too hot for our rules.

There is a video up on youtube with the GHK AKM being chronoed with CO2 it was 435 or so first shot then after five rounds settled to 380-ish and dropped off at about 359 or so.Also basically if I were to disable or in other words take the auto sear out of the AKM I could use it as a DMR?

Yes, for games that allow DMRs. Anything that can only shoot semi-auto only can shoot up to 475fps. Some event promoters do 450, but you should be ok even in that case.

Ok, so before coming down there in about 4-5 months (maybe?) Depending on when I get enough to come down I should either get a chrono or rip out the auto sear. Got it. :p
Also we are going to join the CAG guys for the game or maybe I am thinking CLI ? Anyways we plan on using GHK AKM's with KJW M9's.

Hello, and welcome to AP. If you are worried about buying propane. I always have an extra bottle laying around.

Welcome to AP, if you are interested, CAG is doing a huge, three-day open training weekend in June, if you guys are in town by then. We'd love to have you come out to that.

Also feel free to visit our forums for more information about the team and our events.

Actually the problem is I would be buying pretty much one time use propane mags at $60 each...

@STRIK3: We are more aiming around the early-mid august mark and I am friends with Russkie and Phoenix. 8)

*EDIT*: Worst case scenario if it wont pass the chrono we can just play equilibrium with the KJW M9's. ;)

DA! Very good comrade! Trying to get Avtomat Kalashnikova Modernizirovanniy as you can see.
Also while you are in the thread I have to ask which is better for woodland, sky camo or city? :p
I could just pick up some flora camo locally but I might have to search for it.

*UPDATE*: So, after thinking about it for awhile and deciding I still would like full-auto capability for certain tactics I decided to compromise and while not getting an AKM as I would love to do (hence CAG) I decided instead of getting M16's to get the PDW with Co2 mags and the NPAS kit and after modifying the cart with the PDW stuff discovered even with 2 $200 grenade launchers and 2 Co2 adaptors for them with 6 shells (3 each) and the 16 mags it was still $300 less than the AKM loadout!!!
@Matt: If you are still watching this thread, if I dont get a chrono in time but I do get the NPAS kits can I set the velocity at the chrono station and be good to go for gameplay?

Use the Poor Man's Chrono

http://www.airsoftretreat.com/reviews/s ... product=71

It will give you a good idea of what you're shooting at. Like if you pierce the bottom but not the side of the bottom, you are likely between those FPS.

If it is because of prohibitive cost due to the propane, down here in Portland, Oregon we pay about $2.80 for a coleman propane stove bottle. (yea, cheap!) and a bottle will last you several weeks of use.
