Japanese parts hard to find in the US?

Postby Nodachi » Fri Feb 17, 2012 6:09 am

Hello, I'll be moving to the US (Probably the Northwest) from Japan soon, and I'm interested in playing Airsoft in the US.

I was wondering if there are any parts I should try to buy in Japan that are difficult to find in the US before I leave. Right now most of my guns are Japanese-made, so I've been getting some spare parts for them, and I've been trying to buy some firefly parts as well, as they seem hard to find on US websites.

Is there anything else that I should buy before leaving?

Thanks in advance.

There are TM compatible replacement parts widely available, though not stock replacement parts, those are harder to find, especially, I have found, external parts.

Other than that, there is a wide range of companies that make replacement internals and upgrade internals that are TM compatible.

In my experience there was little to nothing to be found in Japan that could not be easily acquired here in the U.S.
The one exception being JGSDF uniforms, and the TM Type 89 Rifle and accessories.

Believe it or not, I've found that the U.S. is better stocked on airsoft guns, gear, parts, and accessories then the airsoft motherland, due to the restrictive policies surrounding the game there.

If you really want to get something you cant get here, drop on my AsoBitCity in Akihabara and pick up the Marushin Maxi Goldenboy for $500-$600, last time I was in there they said they couldnt sell it to save their life.

Portland and the surrounding area are very good for finding airsoft parts since you have AONW not TOO far away.

The parts won't be to hard to find unless you have the TM Recoil Shock series guns.

Most techs don't really know how to work on them simply because they aren't widely used in the US.

If you have "normal" airsoft guns then you shouldn't have any problem finding or getting anything done.

In all honesty its going to be the guns themselves that might be harder to find when you get over here, that and gear.

The good news is that with the internet parts are (relatively) easy to get. The bad news is that shipping is what jacks prices up. If anything, stocking up on cheap little replacement parts may not be a bad idea.

I actually have two recoil shock guns, (M4 and SCAR-H) and I've had a fair bit of experience working on Recoil Shock guns, so service isn't really a problem.

I guess I'm just curious if there are any desirable parts that are in short supply or the shipping is too expensive.

I was planning to stock up on some spare Recoil Shock parts too, though Echigoya's English website seems to have a lot usually, and I'm sure that I can also probably convince them to let me order things from the JP website as well, since it has a lot more products than the English one.
I'm considering getting a 226E2 also but I'm not sure if I should...So tempting though!

The KJW P226 doesn't like a TM outer barrel, but other than that, there are a wide range of replacement parts for the 229 and 226, TM make and clones.

I meant that more as in, I'm thinking about buying a 226E2 itself, not parts for the 226. Sorry if that was unclearly worded.

What are your temptations and holdbacks on the gun?

The 226 is a widely used firearm, and will work for many impressions, I'd call it a good buy. But that's probably just because I have one. Is the airsoft 226E2 smaller as well?

Eh, I'm not so concerned about the impression angle. I like SIGs and I used to own a real 226, and I was considering getting another gun while I can get it for cheap. And the 226E2 is just a 226 with more ergonomic grips.

I don't care for Glocks or the Five seveN, and the XD isn't my piece of cake either. That narrowed it down to the 226, pretty much.

I'm mostly held back by the fact I don't really need it for anything in particular, it would just be a last minute impulse buy.
