Gun stand plans

Postby Sho Nuff » Sun Feb 19, 2012 1:34 pm

I have been trying to find a basic wood gun stand for my replicas but cant find one anywhere. So now I am hoping someone on AP has made there own and are willing to share the plans they used. I would like it to be for 8 guns. Thanks for any help.

I went down to Grand & Benedicts and picked up a couple of sheets of slatwall and some hooks. Works really well to organize / display guns and gear.

Thanks Steve, I like that idea. How easy is it to mount to a wall. I do have a rental property and dont want to make to many holes.

very very easy, you wont need huge holes, this is how I store all my gear in my rental here. Cheap and effective, not to mention when you look at it hanging up it you realize you own way to many toys.

I used white pegboard and 1x2s to stand it out from the wall.

I've got eight screws in it, four of them go in to studs in the wall.

Get a few 2x4's cut to length for height wise, and I went with 24" wide for the supports. Drill 3/4 inch holes for 3/4 inch dowels, at a shallow angle. Having a protractor helps to get perfect angles, but it's not necessary for functionality, just nice looking. Cut the 3/4 inch dowel to 6-8 inch lengths, and attatch the long 2x4's to the short ones to make a square. I recommend putting the long over the short on the corners, as it looks nice, and screw together from the back. You can drill holes every 4 inches or so for adaptability. 2x4 lumber will be nice and cheap, and sturdy. If you want something that looks really nice, get 1x3 oak or clear pine, and stain it.

I used pegboard too. It's very modular and pretty cheap. You can get it cut to size at home depot.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I have thought of the board idea as well, but really like the clean look of the slatwall. I hope to have it done by next weekend and I will post pics. Thanks again.

I took a couple of photos of my setup. It went up pretty easily, and makes organizing things so that I can find them a lot easier. I have basically 12' x 6' of slatwall hanging up along the wall.

And +1 to the comment that it makes you realize how much gear you have. Not pictured are the four wire shelving racks full of plastic tubs of other misc. tactical gear randomness.

I wear the Stetson when I'm using the Halligan tool. I breach with panache.

Just a word of caution...make sure that none of the excellent racks / collections are visible from the exterior of the residence. Plenty of burglar types would love to get their pea pickers on that gear. That is the reason you do not see very many glass type gun cases sold any more. Too many break-ins / loss of stuff.

So this thread got me motivated to make a stand for my shop and for using at games instead of laying my gun in the bed of my truck or in the mud while i'm getting my gear on. Took me about 20 minutes to assemble it. It's made out of extra bits i had laying around (bed slats from an ikea bed). It's able to fold the legs in and hold 8 guns. Just need to add a few more pieces, dowel, paint and it should be done.

Absolutely. Also, electronic deadbolts that engage automatically when the door shuts, so you don't have to worry about maintenance folks seeing your war wall.
