Ammo Weight - The Debate

Postby Riddick » Wed Feb 08, 2012 10:27 am

So I am thinking about no longer offering .20g ammo and just offer .25g ammo.

.20g ammo only positives over .25g ammo is that it shoots faster (FPS) and usually you get more in the bag than heavier weights.

.25g ammo will shoot slower (FPS) but will have better accuracy and it will go farther than the lighter ammo due to weight and energy of the round.

If anyone shoots .20g ammo, let me know why. I think the main reason is that most people think it shoots farther than .25g because it's lighter and has a higher fps to it.

I use .2g in some of my guns because they eat it better than heavier ammo. But then again I don't buy ammo from you...

For SAW gunners .20g can be cheaper to fire because you get more quantity for your buck. Also, some folks prefer to mix .20 and .25 in SAWs for a larger spread. At least I used to in my 60. But now for most regular ARs I'm running .25g.

I'll buy .23s if you are going to carry them. Otherwise .25s is adequate, I would only buy .20s for backups.

I use .20's for my AEG's that shoot under 350 FPS. Because they travel farther, and faster. I use .25's for AEG's that shoot over 350 FPS for the added accuracy. While getting the same range, and speed as .20's in an under 350 FPS AEG. IMO.

.23 g seems to be a nice balance for me. Not quite the slowness of a .25 bb and still get just about the same accuracy of .25. I wouldn't mind ditching the .20's if you sold .23's.

Please keep .20s available for the kids. While there is no advantage on the field to using them for the shooter, they are a little cheaper and they don't hurt as much. Helps separate the pro teams.

Well, I haven't ever bought ammo from you Rick, but with this new field ammo policy I may have to...

I always use .20g because you can literally see the difference in speed between .25g and .20g...at least in my gun. I would never be able to hit anyone, because they can just dodge the .25g round (if they were watching). I chronoed 350fps with .20g at your last Splat Action game, LOW IV. Also, in my gun, I couldn't see any great increase in accuracy with the .25g.

All that to say, I am getting a promy barrel and upgrading my bucking (possibly hop-up as well) which could mean that my gun will do better with .25g ammo.

I say keep the .20g.

I don't use anything less than .25's because...well, I am not sure why.
I do hope that after all this discreditable shuffling we may be taken into action. It has a wonderful way of reconciling a man with himself: and with everybody else, sometimes. - 1st Lt. James Dillon

Use you pretty much your .28's in everything. I know the math is there I just can't remember what it is right now. I only buy .2's to chrono with at home.

I use .20s in some of my guns. I prefer them for SAWs, they are better for pistols IMO (faster close range velocity is more important than long range accuracy), and my AK is less finicky with .20s.

in CQB indoors I'll take .2s any day of the week for faster fps and to save money. When I go outdoors I'll use .25s
