New to Airsoft

Postby Aircrew » Fri Dec 02, 2011 1:28 am

After finding the forum and reading up a bit, I felt I should perform the introduction ritual as my first post. I'll start by saying I have read a great many of the stickies that seem pertinent at this time, but certainly not all of them.

I live out in Sandy, and I was an avid archery hunter for many years before I joined the service. I am a veteran of the US. Navy, and was an AMH(AC) aircrewman. Shortly after I got out in the mid 90s, I got into paintball for awhile. Stalking humans was an even bigger rush than stalking elk. I was always more into the milsim aspect of it, and never quite happy with the accuracy and bulk to the paintball gear, however. I haven't played in close to 10 years. Later, I became a protection specialist and took some tactical classes as part of my certification. Left that field, to return to a career in aviation where I am today.

Recently I've stumbled on airsoft, and it seems to be all that I wanted to get out of paintball. I had heard of it before, but always associated it with orange toy guns and teenagers. After seeing a few videos and doing my research, I'm fairly excited to give it a try. I'm hoping to drag some of my old military friends out on to a field, and explore what airsoft has to offer.

I've already been able to isolate a solid local store, and intend to hit up AONW for my initial gear shortly once I have the holidays situated for my kids and such. Next will be to find local fields. I'm not much of an indoor guy, and prefer open field battles/skirmishes. The only field I remember from my paintball days is Splat Action, and I have no idea if they do airsoft. Eventually, I'd like to meet up with some local teams and see if I fit in.

For now I'm happy to observe and learn. Hopefully I wasn't too long winded, and slightly more informative than simply blurting out a hello and that I want to shoot people. :snipx0r:

Hello, and welcome to AP. And just an FYI Splat Action does allow airsoft, and AP members to throw on OP's there. Just not as often as we used to, due to the new field that have sprung up in the past years.

Welcome to airsoft. There are a few things you should know:

1)This is more expensive then being addicted to heroin. Seriously, it is.
2)There is more homo-eroticism here then in the pages of Butt Buddies Weekly.
3)There are 3 kinds of people here: those who are knowledgeable, those who think they are knowledgable, and 15 year old know-it all's. Learn to sort the people of AP into their rightful categories.
4)This is a great community with a great wealth of knowledge. However we will not spoon feed you. If you do you research and still need help, we can usually figure out your problem within minutes.

Enjoy your stay. Come out to games. Don't be afraid to join in the Solidarity Service and sing "Orgy-Porgy".

Thanks for the warm welcome. I've already seen how expensive it can be, and have allocated a decent initial budget, I hope. I look forward to some good games, and will be watching the events forum and calendar.

Looking forward to trying out the new fields.

Piece of information to help save money, don't go buy all the high speed gear. People only buy it to look the part. The guys that have all the high speed gear have been playing a long time and slowly bought. There is.nothing wrong with having a badass gun as far as internals, it will only help you. The only thing you really need is mag pouchs and maybe a utility pouch. And get some good camo, I really like multicam. Good luck.

P.s. no disrespect against gear whores, someone gotta do it.
Hang it.
