My grandpa had the call-name before I did. He served with the Marines in WWII, and got the nickname Reaper for his last name(Grimm Reaper). Then my dad got it in dessert storm, and then I picked it up for a call-name for Airsoft

I my name was reaper and I was picking my own name. I would pick a name like bunny reaper, or or hot fudge. break away from the norm but that is just me.

My callsign is Yoshi, because when a new guy asked me what my name was, I responded with my Hebrew name and not my American name. Yoshia Zahav Ben Mordechai Halevi got shortened to "Yoshi" and everyone stuck with it.

Oh, and everyone calls me ogre. I didn't pick it, but it is a derivation of the moniker I use. Actually, it's a good example of choosing a moniker and then people calling you something you didn't intend on. "Jager" is German for "hunter" so "ogrejager" is, literally, "ogre hunter." Yet, everybody calls me ogre. While that still fits--I'm old and grumpy--it wasn't the intended call sign. I hunt ogres (seriously, I have the decoy, the bait, and the firepower-I just need to find Shrek and his head is on my wall).

Yeah, this thread exists why? Everyone tells everybody what to call them and then everybody works with that. We're back to Cooley and Mead now.
