Who makes the best LBT 1961a knock-offs?

Postby Darius137 » Tue Nov 08, 2011 3:25 pm

I was looking at the LBT 1961a and that sort of simple chest rig, and wondering who made the best *affordable* version? $450 is a bit steep for me for something I'd like to just try out.

The TAG Phalanx seems to be just over $100, for a "real" company.

Phalanx Type 3 Split Front can take STANAG/M4 mags as well as M14 (what I'm looking for):

I personally recommend against 1961a's but if you want a replica one, Flyye would be the way to go.

Ideally, it'd have just enough space for:
8 M4/M14 magazines
2 pistol magazines
2 utility pouches
a radio
a frag
Camelbak on the back

I didn't like the pouches. I have a hatred towards pouches with buckles, and compared to something like a MAV where you can put pouches you already have or specific ones you want to use on it instead, I just don't see why you'd want the 1961 other than not having/wanting to buy pouches.

Keep them un-buckled or simply cut them off at the base of the webbing.

Still bothered me, I also didn't like the GP pouches placement (in the way of my arms if they're full).

The LBT can also have kangaroo inserts in the pocket behind all the pouches. So that allows for 6-12 more M4 mags when using the LBT2645a(x2) or LBT2645C(x2) kangaroo pouches. It also allows space for the 7.62 and mp7 kangaroo inserts if you need to carry an SMG or m14.

How well will these things fit AK74 mags? If they'll accept .223 and .308 mags, I'd imagine they'd be fairly accommodating?

Yeah, there is a flap/pocket/pouch thing that allows you to insert these kangaroo pouches behind the sewn on pouches.
