Snipers.

Let me know how you guys play in the Sniper role.

Do you play with a spotter/support sniper?
Do you play lone wolf?

Let me know your preferred way of playing as that role.

Personally, I play as close to the real deal. Not one sniper, but a sniper team. I play as the support sniper. I spot for my sniper & I watch his back. I also take care of claymores & alarms. We both wear ghillie suits & modify them to fit the local brush.

No one under 30 should be running a sniper.

Snipers should sit around talking on the radio. Probably go the whole game without taking a shot. Just providing intel while acting cool.

DMR is something else though. Run that and be a trigger happy meanie. I could never be a sniper, but running DMR would be awesome.

I tried doing a few different styles of play over the summer and found that lone wolf seems to work well. (But I get lonely after so long).
-Support doesn't work because you get to easily suppressed by someone with full auto and you can't take point very well because of that same issue.
-Spotter teams work well if your buddy has a rather quiet weapon but other wise he's just saying hey guys were over here.
-Recon works alright but you often end up getting in a nice spot and the only person on the other side of the radio is some kid that keeps asking where you are and if you can back him up. More organized games I could see it be handy if your talking to a commander but that has to be prearranged.
-Lone wolf the way I run it is, cover your teams flank while sweeping up behind the enemy, i've found that if you are patient enough one guy here and there will get the bright idea so try and flank your guys and you can pick them off. Best to let them pass you too, so they're not sure where is came from. Eventually you'll be behind your enemy and enough of a distraction for your team to advance on them.

Running as a sniper has its ups and downs, the fields with thick brush will often get you to close for a shot and trapped because you can't more to far with out alerting the enemy near you.
Like said above its not for everyone and it can get tiring.
Wow I wrote a lot.

I thought Support was not to take point because of its namesake. If I'm wrong, please kindly tell me.

"Support Team, noun: The element tasked to maneuver to a position providing maximum advantage for supporting fire"

"Support by Fire, noun: To provide suppressive fire from a static position against an enemy target in support of another maneuvering friendly force"

Source: Paintball and Airsoft Battle Tactics (copyright 2008) by Christopher E. Larsen, Expert Infantry.

They (schematics artist/author and Larsen) also show the standard squad layout and it looks like the MG is behind two RMs in order for the pic (not shown) RM,RM, AR/MG, GNDR (ATL), SL, GNDR (BTL), AR/MG, RM, RM.

RM=Rifleman, MG=Machinegun, GNDR (_TL)= Grenadier (_Team Leader), SL= Squad Leader.

This is all I have learned, thought I'd put my two cents in and cite them.

Cheers

It depends on the game in my experience I went lone wolf. It easier that way you can move faster on the field. When it comes to a spotter on the other hand its up to you. If you want an extra person to make noise for you then go ahead. If you want to be as stealthy as you can go by yourself. I also said this more then once you guys can quote me on this. Snipers run in scout teams of 3 or more these days, so they have support from guys carrying as much gun as possible. A lot of M203's and support weapons next to the guy with the longer range for the precision shots.

A sniper uses a spotter to help them hit their target. With airsoft, the range is so minimal that you don't need one unless you're going for an impression, or you know a guy with a SAW that loves to unload an 11.1v LiPo when you shazaam up that first shot and start yelling for Ivan to take his hits.

Snipers are fear based weapons. The fox news of airsoft. Sniper roles:

1. Anti-SAW
2. Feed the mosquitoes to close down a road / valley, provide intel.
3. Pin down bastards in a building so they don't put their heads out while your squad is breaching. A mature sniper won't take head shots unless the target has a full mask on, just wiz a few past the target's ear to get the message across. I pinned a guy down for an hour once just by lobbing a few into a wall.
4. Wander around looking for targets of opportunity for no particular reason.
5. Hide behind a squad like a chicken shit and chuck bbs downrange, basically accomplishing nothing.

Basically little need for a spotter.

Recon Scout Sniper is the only way to go. Otherwise you are just another tard with a rifle who only has 1 shot vs the hundreds of full auto weapons out there. You have to be the eyes and ears for your CO, knowing where the enemy is, where they are headed, what they are doing, and how many there are. You may not even fire a shot.

Beyond that, secondary objectives include taking out high priority targets. Officers. Saw gunners. Other snipers.

Lone wolf and recon mostly for me, although I usually end up assisting a squad at some point in time. It is great when a team is has good communication and will listen, vary rarely will good reconaissance be listened to. Definately not that exciting or glamorous. average eliminations per day is around 5

Shit I can do all that with my M4 all I have to do is mount a scope on it, and get in a ghillie. If shit happens I have thirty rounds if they get to close. When it comes to High priority targets on the other hand I'm just gonna run down the hill screaming like a banshee, and hopefully I get my guy.
