You are an idiot. Calling the cops is one of the most dumb things you can ever do. Followed closely by talking to them.

That kids actions had a reasonable probability of resulting in police coming to the school with guns drawn. That kid should have the shit kicked out of him daily until he is forced to change schools.

What do the schools teach these days??? When in doubt call the cops?? wtf. maybe you should change schools too.

Calling the cops on someone is a bigger offense than bleeding their gf/spouse. Your next step better be to move/skip town/never talk to them again. Calling the cops has huge long term financial and job prospect implications and you better be willing to accept those and understand that you are to blame for any of the consequences that follow your decision.

Calling the cops about a harmless airsoft pistol should get your face smashed in until no one can stand to look at you.

That is because it is the accurate informed conclusion. You can't blame the cops for what they do after you call them because they are just following procedure and doing their job. Any damage or long term costs are the fault of the person who decided to escalate the situation by calling them.

I sort of agree with him and I sort of don't - depends on the situation. If somebody claims a student has a "gun" - and as a school principle you do not know if it's real or not, you really don't have many options but to get law enforcement involved. In fact, it's probably required. However, if somebody said "Little Billy brought an AIRSOFT gun to school today..." well in that case, I'd just bring him into the office and dig a confession out of him, then have his parents pick him AND the Airsoft gun up... hand out a suspension and tell him never to bring it again.

So, on halloween, yes, the faculty should have realized some dumbass would show up with a toy gun for a costume. But on all other days, they really have to go balls to the walls with reaction, because the 1 of 1000 times they don't, they will either be sued by a parent group, loose their jobs, or it will be a real gun.

Honestly, in todays day every little shit should know that a gun, be it nerf, airsoft, paintball or noise maker is not allowed at school, period.

Even things having to do with guns is not allowed, my 8 yr old son had a pocket full of EMPTY spent .22 shells and forgot they were in his coat when he went to school on the next monday, i was called to pick him up because of it. I promptly told the principle that he over reacted and was an idiot for it. But i can see why they have zero tolerance.

Yeah that would be the correct way to handle it. Also if someone were to bring a real (loaded) firearm into a classroom as a student (and showing it off) then it would be reasonable to conclude that there was an intent to use (or likelihood of using) that firearm so bringing police into the situation would be reasonable. It would not be (much of) an escalation.

I do disagree that you can't tell the difference. People know what is going on and you should be able to profile pretty easily the small portion of the class that could actually bring real loaded firearms in a way that could actually result in the use of them.
