Instead of quoting the acts of stupid bravery you think you will commit in the event you see a coyote why don't we all agree to just leave them alone? We are in their "home" if you will.

So....why does everybody need a flashlight? I understand that it's a night game, but I'd rather not be running around and giving away my position with a flashlight.

If you don't want to give away your position be conservative when you use your flashlight.
-If it has two brightness settings use the lower setting.
-Point it only at the ground.
-Don't leave it on, flash it quickly and turn it off.
-Throw it on the outside edge of your gun.

Nope not at all, but they are useful if you know how to use them efficiently and particularly useful if you get lost.
