Modern helicopter pilot helmets?

Postby Night_Stocker » Fri Oct 14, 2011 9:18 am

Does anyone know where one can find a helicopter pilot's helmet? I'm looking into compiling a new/original loadout (Marine helicopter pilot.)
FYI this does not mean I'm dead set on compiling this loadout, I'm just poking around to survey my options and calculate costs.

Cheers.
If $400,000 a year is low-class, I'm totally f***ed.

It is an HGU 84P made by Gentex. You might find them on Ebay but be prepared to pay some bucks.
Amazing what less than 2 minutes on google gets you!

An HGU-56 would work as well. You can find new ones on ebay for around $300.

The HGU 56 is an Army Helmet. The Marines use the HGU 84P. When I was looking for a helmet for my Airplane company I talked to Gentex and they suggested the 84 because the Marines use then and it would work with goggles. I was told by the Army we could not buy them they are for the Marines and so the order for HGU56P was made. I wish I could have the 84P since it is a smaller lightee helmet but oh well.
Good luck in your quest for new kit

Now if you want just a helicopter helmet The HGU 56P of the SPH 4 would both be good helmets. The HGU 56P is a more modern helmet but you might be able to find the SPH 4 less expensive. And Yes the Marines used the SPH 4 not sure if they ever used the HGU 56P but I know they used the SPH 4. Not as new of a helmet but a correct helmet none the less

I stand corrected on the HGU-56 then. On a side note, an old HGU-55 could be spruced up to look like an 84.

My brother says his gentex hgu 84 P runs about $1200 so $214 on ebay would be a steal

214 is a steal indeed. I just don't have the money for such an investment before the closing time of the auction.

Oh, well; back to the drawing board... probably will stick back to a MARSOC loadout (like everybody else) or maybe even a ranger loadout...
