Flyye WSH Plates

Postby Bic 101 » Mon Oct 10, 2011 9:27 am

I just bought a Flyye WSH which is a replica of the HSGI Weesatch. I want to make a set of plates to add some rigidity to the carrier. My question is, what is the easiest way to build the plates?

Currently I'm considering a a sheet of 1/8 inch plastic cut to size and doubled up. I do have fabrication skills so if it a better way requires more fabrication that is ok.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers.

Plates are usually somewhat conformed to the human body(curved). You'll want to consider that. I am making some plates using some Swimming Kickboards that I am cutting down to shape and size. Two cost around 6-8 dollars from China on ebay. They don't weigh much and are closed cell foam so they won't soak up our wonderful NW rain. I can sort of bend/mold them to my body because they are rigid yet soft. I can report more once I am done. I just need to cut the shape using real plates as a template which will hopefully be this week.

One guy (sorry, I forgot your name!) claimed that he was having good success with cutting boards from ikea or anywhere else that has them cheap. Since you said you have the skills to fabricate it, it shouldn't be too difficult to shape them.

I've used camping mats for dummy soft armor as well as its close to the same thickness.

CARDBOARD! i put 3 layers of cardboard plates in each compartment in my vests and they fit me nice and snug (I'm a bit too skinny for my plate carrier). it also provides a nice amount of protection in CQB
