M249 Bipod Replacement; Picture Heavy

Postby Switchback » Sat Sep 10, 2011 1:41 pm

Everybody with an M249 knows how clanky and janky the built-in bipods are, and how they are always rattling and popping out of the handguard when you run. Aside from a rail system, there was no escape, no alternative. Until now.

Folds up nicely.

Even when extended, it has clearance on the box magazine.

No rattle! Stays locked in place (good for recoil-less airsoft guns, would get sheared off on a real one)!

That's all I've got. Cool?

That's pretty cool. I assume it's steel? Welded 3 pieces together or do it real nice and mill it out?

"Metal" bipod, one of the ones from AONW about 100 years ago. I just took off the one side of the claw, and screwed it through this one place on the M249, and tool tightened it (after putting some teflon tape on the threads). So not milled, just screwed on there... but it's solid, and I'm going to eventually drill it into the body. But for now, this one works and I'm very satisfied with it.

I feel dumb. I thought you made the piece the bipod is attached to.

That'd be quite legitimate, Sir. But no. I don't have enough skill.

My buddy said that when he was in Afghanistan they were always breaking them off so they'd replace them with harris bipods, but often broke those too.

When I get more funding, I'm going to get a rail system and a grip-pod. But this does great for now! Very solid, no clanking.
