Is OD gear currently worn overseas?

Is OD gear currently worn overseas?

Postby Darius137 » Sat Aug 20, 2011 4:10 pm

I'm thinking of buying some real kit and I'd prefer to have it in OD. It's been a long time since I've been overseas, though, and I figure you guys would know the answer:

Question:
If I get gear in OD green (or RG for that matter), would the Army or National Guard allow me to wear it overseas? Or would I have to get it in Multicam or CB/MJK?

What type of gear we talking? Obviously you are already aware of commanders discretion and all that. The 09-10 deployment the BC was pretty hardcore on having only issued gear in UCP (while rocking his non issue non ucp holster for his m9) but many of us had non issued stuff, although it was in UCP (didn't stand out). Assault packs and the like were fine in any pattern or type (someone had a converse school backpack they always took with them, janky as shit....)

Edit: Now that I think about it, there were guys rocking non ucp gear, primarily mc, but there was some rg and cb.

I'm talking about pouches, mainly. Droplegs and pouches.

I'd say plate carriers and/or RRVs, but I'm pretty sure we'll be forced into wearing IOTVs.

The 1st ID bubbas here in the east are all rocking MC, to include the plate carriers and pouches. 101st Airborne guys out in Sharana, same thing. Only guys we're seeing in UCP are Navy(go figure) and a few support pukes up in Bagram. AF is even on board with MC, altho many are still in ABSG with UCP gear.

Frankly, your best bet is MC, the RG stuff is almost all Rangers and Navy guys with beards.

I'd prefer to talk about soldiers, not leeches.

09-oh10 our issued gear was UCP, and we were "authorized" black as well, with discretion. Basically came down to not getting caught by Majors and up.
