i want to get a camera for my scar. ive been looking for a while. the contour is just a little pricey as is the hero. i found the tachyon for a reasonable price. pros,cons with this brand?

I love my GoPro. The poly-carbonate case means I don't have to worry about BB's. The waterproof means the NW rain doesn't affect it. The 1080P resolution means I get good quality video. The multiple mounting options mean I can create my own mount for rails, helmets, wave runners, snowboarding, parachuting, fish watching,...

They are expensive, but very worth it.

just get a Flip camera and build your own mount. my friends does it and it works great. just be sure to put some polycarb sheet over the lens, ive seen unprotected cameras get shot out before

Thing with the flips is they have a very large area exposed to incoming BBs, along with adding to the over all area that can be seen before going around a corner/out of cover.

i have a contour HD which i brought from ASGI, got it for a little under 200$ during the memorial day sell but with extra battery, and picatinny rail mount i payed 250$ that time. i've only touched a contour and gopro before so here is a comparison between them, of my opinion:

for the GoPro: the video has a slightly better quality than the contour, and of its mounting system; it is easier to come up with ways to adjust the angle of the camera to where you want. however since the shape of it is like a block it may seem awkward to mount it off center of the object you're mounting it on. for airsofting you would probably want to stick it onto a helmet that has NVG mount or a heavy weapon like a M240 or M134

as for the Contour: even though the video isn't as good as the gopro and aligning the camera is a bit tricky the audio recording is a lot better due to its multi-direction microphone thats built in it, the stream line of the body makes it perfect for mounting it on a gun or to the right side of your helmet/goggle (if you're right handed), also the recording button is less of a hassle than the gopro if you are using gloves

although the contour is priced at 250$ if you're not in a rush to buy one. you could wait a while to see if you can get a better deal than what i payed for especially if you have time to wait for a Holiday.

In addition to the LCD back panel so you can review your footage without a computer (or the extended battery back panel if you want more then 2.5 hrs without changing batteries).

I honestly think that the modular, and replaceable nature of the housing, in addition to the waterproof properties, and the resolution, make the GoPro the better camera for here in the PacNW.

The Contour offer aftermarket cases that increase the waterproof to 10m, but the GoPro case that is included not only offers impact protection (from rocks, bbs, bikes, whatever...) but also 60m of waterproofing. That's what got me because I also use mine scuba diving.

If your goal is to capture video footage that's fun to watch, consider mounting to a helmet instead. Unless you walk around sticking your barrel in people's faces all day, you'll be looking at the ground or the sky 80% of the time. The only time you'll be looking forward is when you are shooting the enemy. You get more of a feel of actually being there with a helmet mount, as you look to and motion to other guys in your squad, etc.

Hey Hey! Tachyon is one of my sponsors and they did send us one of the new SD ops with their Rail mount. They are great little cameras. MUCH cheaper then either the Go-Pro or contour. The SD obviously isn't HD but they are also releasing their HD version for 139.

Matt's right tho about the mounting. rail mount is great for snipers and guys that are looking down the barrel all day. but if you're running around you will not be on target. The nice thing about the Tachyon is it comes with all the mounts you need. you can get the rail mount as an option.
