Airsoft in Japan: SEALs Survival Game Field AAR

Postby oki-san » Mon Aug 08, 2011 2:05 am

Whats going on AP. It's been a long since my last AAR so i thought i'd show you guys some more of how the japanese do airsoft.

First off, they call the actual playing of airsoft, survival games, hence the field name.

Secondly, this is mostly going to be photos.

third, if you see anyone with a blurred face, its myself and a few of my military buddies. I did this because the military doesnt really condone airsoft so i dont want to out my buddies (or myself for that matter, despite having a few photos of myself on this website....)

http://www.seals.jp/home.html

getting to the place without a car is a b___h and a half so if u ever find yourself in this area of the world, be ready for a trek. If you live in tokyo it'll take you about an hour on the train and about 20 minutes of walking.

The staging area is this place.

You generally have to call in advance to register yourself a table or a few seats on a table for you and who ever is on your "team". this way they can also get a head count while also getting friends to be on the same team.

Each game has up to 150-200 people. this game in particular was around 160 i believe.

The guy with the megaphone is one of the game admins, there are several who walk around during the game and supervise and do their best to make sure no one cheats or what pulls what they call a "zombie", im pretty sure you guys can figure out what the english equivalent is. This generally takes place before anyone steps on the field and they go over all the field rules and regs. mostly pretty standard stuff.

Each team is split by arm bands, generally each field in japan is this way. During the first few games they split us until 4 groups and cut the field in half. later on they split us back into two groups and we continued to play.

Games last about 15 minutes each. unfortunately most of japan likes having speed ball type games so they go by pretty quick but despite that they are extremely fun. These go on all morning with 3 minute separations until lunch which is provided. Generally its a big bowl of japanese curry with rice and a hotdog or piece of chicken for some protein. they are extremely filling and usually you are able to go for seconds.

Image

there is also a pro shop where u can get misc stuff you might have forgotten or maybe a few new things like accessories or gear. prices are decent, from what i can tell they do not charge crazy prices because its at the field.

there are lots of structures and barricades within the field itself and lots of thick foliage to conceal you from the OPFOR. the one negative to all this is japan has f__king gigantic spiders and if your not careful you may run into one. (im talking the size of your palm....yeah...F-that)

Even if you dont like crawling thru the shrubs there is still plenty of space.

Generally most of the gungho dudes who just like shooting things go charging into the map head on which usually clears the map for the more tactically interested players. The field offers lots of different tactical situations for such a small field. there is a CQB maze, a building, a fortress, a market, hut and yard, a mock 50cal position and an encampment.

All in all, its probably one of the funnest things EVER! If any of u guys can get out here i definitely recommend it!

As for the kinds of kit you'll see, generally everyone has something, they have BDU, mask and gun rentals for newbies but usually they have something to play in. Lots of high speed low drag kind of stuff but also some stuff that makes you go WTF?? (nazis....yeah, i mean that)

Here are some examples...

Image

badass sniper, i would see him every other game or so stalking thru trees and shrubbery. according to the first hand account of one of my friends, he was pretty spot on and was taking guys down at 60+ ft which is not as easy in japan due to the low FPS laws.

Image

these two dudes were probably the only weird guys of the bunch. despite all the badass kit, they almost never did anything...seriously.
Every time we saw them they were hanging around the back taking pictures of them selves. i think i saw them pop shots off like twice.
kind of makes me mad when you see gear queers who'd rather take pictures of themselves in kit than play in it. wtf is the point if you dont get your kill time in...come on now.

And....finally us =D (tell us what you think!)

Image

my buddy in his army kit. Except for the gun, everything on him is 100% legit. Hes served twice in combat and has all kinds of badass kit, alot of which he got for free. A lot of my current kit is thanks to him.

Image

Another friend in his multicam kit. No real inspiration.

Image

And the last of our group, he was looking for a fast recon-esque loadout and so we kind of scrapped some stuff together and got him in the game. This is actually his first game. the cammies are my first friends and the gun, goggles, ear pro, vest, chest rig and hat are all mine. despite his newbish appearance he destroyed people which was quite comical.

Image

and this is all of us together =D

hope you enjoyed it. let me know if wanna know anything else.

That field looks really cool. A lot better then fields around here. And we do have a phrase for the "gear queers", it's called gear whores. Either one is appropriate I think. And we have our fair share of them too.

actually i disagree, gear whores are just people who like having a crap ton of gucci gear AND actually use it.

gear queers are people who just like to look all pretty and high speed.

atleast thats what ive always thought.

if i remember correctly it was 3000 yen (approx 40 bucks). that includes all day plus lunch.

if you count the costs of BBs, transportation by train and your own food and drink throughout the day its about 7500 yen (approx 100 bucks).

Yeah it is pretty steep but then again japan isnt exactly the cheapest place on earth and the shitty yen-dollar rate is not helping.

I'm digging the look of the field. Cool to see how airsoft is going down in it's home country.

Holy chocolate Jesus tits at the price for transportation and play.

When you go by train, how do you not get arrested from carrying all that gear?

I sell gear as a job and I can tell you that the Asians, in particular the Japanese, take their gear VERY seriously. It is not uncommon to see guys with several thousand dollars worth of kit on.

poebot: pretty much what catch22 said but we also carry it in hiking backpacks and sports duffels. those are pretty common with back packers and fuji climbers in chiba so no one really bats an eye. The funny thing is you can tell which trains lead to the field because you'll see guys walking around in combat pants and wearing blouses on the trains while carrying obvious gun cases, gun bags or rucksacks.

Dan: definitely correct. not everyone is like that but i wouldnt doubt that of all countries on earth, the highest concentration of gear whores is in japan. i'll be posting photos from victory show soon.

Do Japanese airsofters love ACM gear as much as people say they do?

Hey there, I know this is two years old, but it's the best thing (and most recent post in English) about airsoft in Japan. I am wondering are you still doing this here? If not do you know some who is? I'd love to get into this, I'm ex-military and a police academy grad living in Japan and looking for a place to play. I'd appreciate any advice or contact, thanks! I live quite close to Tokyo and I have a car as well so commuting is no prob, and I do speak some Japanese.
