southern oregon airsofters

Postby sovereignmule » Thu May 26, 2011 7:20 pm

i have been thinking of opening an indoor arena in southern oregon for some time but i have been really aprehensive in starting the process beacuse i really dont know who all is out there, and who might be interested.

so here it is southern oregon.... a chance to stand up and be counted (litterally). i want to know how many of you are out there and where you are. what team are you a part of and how many are on the team? do you go to events? would you play indoor? where would be convenient for you to play (how far are you willing to travel)? what are you willing to pay for a day of indoor? an hour of indoor? from ashland to roseburg im calling you out (so to speak). you northerners can respond too. if i opened up an indoor arena (that isnt under the threat of shutting down, and yes i will do my homework and obtain all required permits and licenses) would you come play for a day? or two if it were a turnament and there were prizes up for grabs?

well this should get you all started.... let me know what you think!

What team and how many: APST, I'm the only one in S. Oregon
Do I go to events: I assume you mean up North, and yes, regularly.
Where would be convenient: Compared to 3-5 hour drives for games, anything south of Roseburg and North of Yreka is convenient.
What am I willing to pay for a day of play: $20

Honestly though, indoor skirms are pretty much just a contest of who can shoot the most and move the least and don't interest me a whole ton. But I'm kindof jaded.

I think what southern oregon needs is a professionally run outdoor field, kind of like River Ranch. If that reopens, I'd be a happy camper.
a bunch of my teammates and I might be interested in some indoor stuff, assuming it was run right.

I would come from Newport for one if it opened.

Birds of Prey (that counts between 7 and 11) would want to play there occasionally.

We are based in the Medford area and play in Gold Hill every weekend, and we all agree that an indoor field would be nice.
I personally would be willing to spend about $5 for a weekend game, or $15 for a big event/scenario.

The only request I would have is to not make is to not make the play area too small, and make it multiple levels, if possible (towers, two story buildings, etc...).

I would like to add that I would prefer a setup like RRA with several buildings, preferably some multistory multiroom rather than 1 big warehouse with walls inside.

Off topic: I talked to Brandon R. the other day and he said that they'd moved the buildings in question and were hoping to re-open soon.

Interesting...:D
Did he specify if the buildings were gone, or just relocated?

Sweet, the field wouldn't be quite the same without them.

For reference, this is why a lot of airsoft fields fail. To actually run a field as a business, it'll take money. Money which "$5 for a weekend game and $15 for a big event" would probably not bring in.

Makes sense, although the situation down here is a bit different. The only field that charges for games down here (that I know of) charges 5$ for weekend skirms and never runs events of any sort. There are many good places to play on BLM land down here too, many of which have better terrain than the paid field.

Personally, I'm happy paying 30$ for a solid event, and 10$ for a weekend skirm at a GOOD field that actually has improvements made and game organization, neither of which are really present at the paid field here.

It would be awsome to have a field like they have in the UK that I didnt have to drive 4 hours to get to. I for one would probably put in plently of my own time to help make any field in Southern Oregon better (as long as it is well run and by people who care about Airsoft)

I'm a part of ATAT, from Ashland, and we have 6 members total right now. We've been going to events semi regularly but have had to put things on hold recently because of school, jobs ect. I know for sure that at least 4 of us are interested in some indoor games. We're generally willing to go as far as Grants Pass for a weekend game and as far as Portland for a full event. Weekend game I think $5 seems good, give or take a few bucks depending on quality of game play/admin/facilities. As for a full event I think $0-40 is good, again depending on what is offered.

As for me personally I would love to do some CQB, granted that the game play is controlled as opposed to "HURR HOLD THA TRIGGA TILL DEY ALL DEAD DERP" because close quarters entry and tactics sounds like a lot more fun to me.

Thanks and good luck!

Section 9 would love to have an indoor arena around. Mule, let me know if you need anything to get this started, I'd love to help.
Not sure how much S9'd be willing to pay, and how often, but I'd go for 5-10 every couple weeks and 30-40 for an op. MOUT would be awesome, but straight CQB would be really cool too.

the buildings are actually gone. they had to jump through some hoops with blm and the local county. stupid beaurocracy. they will put the buildings back up once they jump through some more hoops though. they did put up some pretty awesome bunkers in lieu of buildings tho (again having to conform to the letter of the almighty county) the area they put them in is a new area we have never played before. pretty cool if you ask me. so stay tuned for some more info. i expect them to be open any weekend now. he (dan rosche) has been working pretty closely with Nox and Gunny to get this thing promoted and on its feet again.

and thanks guys for all the input. keep it coming.

Sorry if I'm reviving a dead thread, but is this going to happen? I know a couple people in Medford that would go, and I would pay for a good cqb arena. I would LOVE to have a field in Medford that is organized. :)
