Combat Shirt with Chest Rig?

Postby Chachi » Wed Jul 13, 2011 11:09 am

Seems like an odd question, I know, but I thought that maybe someone wears this combo and can give me some suggestions. Anyways, I have a Pantac Chest Rig (this one) and I am considering the purchase of a Combat Shirt to wear with the chest rig. My question is that since a combat shirt was really designed for wearing with a plate carrier, will there be too much of the sand (white) color that is exposed when wearing the combat shirt with my chest rig? Currently, I have the Propper Combat Coat, but it is so thick and heavy that wearing it in the summer is rough. For that reason I was considering the combat shirt, or the Vertx Gunfighter shirt. Any tips or suggestions is appreciated. Thanks!

yeah, a lot of the lighter colored torso material will be shown from your upper chest to your shoulders. it depends on which shirt you get, sometimes they have a light sand color and other times its a darker FDE or OD. they also vary in build, some have just the sleeves patterned, while others have camo material on the shoulders as well.

honestly i wouldnt worry about it much unless the material is very light colored.

Some will stick out, but it's not going to give you away. I was wearing my belt rig and my combat shirt, and didn't have an issue with my "shirt giving me away".

+1 for combat shirts. Love how they fit/feel.

Cool, thanks for the thoughts Beran and J.N. That was my concern, is that there would just be a bunch of white sticking out, defeating the purpose of the camo in the first place. The Vertx Gunfighter shirt is really cool, but having not seen it in person, I'm not sure how heavy it is and if it will be too warm in the summer. 5.11 does make a TDU shirt that has more of a CB as the body color rather than the sand color, so that may be an option too.

Well, thanks again. I am looking forward to having one of these shirts for summer play!

Chachi,
If you want to see a combat shirt in person, new on the rack, US Tactical in Albany generally has them in stock.

I'm seriously contemplating one myself.

Actually, that is where I was going to get one, most likely. As per the website, he has some in stock, and I am waiting for an email reply on if he has my size or not. If so, I'll head over and check one out, and most likely get it. I just want something lighter weight than my combat coat for the summer. The other thought was getting a MC t-shirt from US Tac and wearing that for this weekend, and then ordering the Vertx shirt instead. I like the idea of the all over MC that the Vertx shirt has.

Dude, you sound like a 15 year old. It's a local phone call, even. Just CALL THEM.

I haven't seen one of the Vertx shirts, so I can offer no opinion on them.

Hey, the "37" listed over by my name is fake. I am actually 15.

Fine, I called them, and they do have them in stock, in my size even. So, in the next day or two I'll sneak over there and take a look. I might just bring my chest rig with me to see how it works out. Thanks again good fellows!

Or you can just go onto e-bay or elsewhere and grab an Under Armor, Potomac FROG base shirt or other moisture-wicking/loose fit or tight fit t-shirt for cheap and then send that and your current field shirt/coat out to me and I'll make a combat shirt for your for around $35.
