How is a patchwork of different laws about imitation firearms logical?

Differing laws from state-to-state can be problematic, imagine if counties could do the same thing. It would be very hard for us Californians to get to a game site without accidentally driving through a county where our imitation firearms are restricted. And if anyone got caught doing so, they would probably get in some major trouble.

You just showed the logic of it. Politics are a masterpiece of complex schemes.

California is the only state that forbids anyone to own a 50 cal

At this point it has just re-passed the Californian Safety Committee, it will need to re-pass though the Full Safety Assembly where it previously passed 22-17. If it makes it through there, it will end up in the senate, and if it makes it through there it will find its way onto the governor's desk.

Somewhat, but they can't completely ban or require airsoft guns to be bright colors, hence the point of this bill. If the bill passes, they can, and getting to a game could potentially become very tricky.

Who says they can't? They can restrict you right to carry a firearm, don't see why they can't do this.

Los Angeles was attempting to pass a bill similar to the previous version of SB798, and determined that the state preemption wouldn't allow them to do so. So, De Leon changed SB 798 to suit his own agenda.
