OR you have groups that never call hits and cheat whenever possible, and a league would be able to find out those groups and ban the whole group outright from league events.

This is pretty much what we're in the process of setting up. :)

Is this going to make it so that those of us without a recognized team are not included in large events now? I was on board with the idea until this part came up, unless i'm totally missing the point, which isn't unheard of for me.

So then you're talking about excluding a certain group of players? That's nice especially given that some team members are at the root of these problems.

To elaborate a bit more on paintball's ID card system...

There is a national organization, the APPA or American Paintball Player's Association, that is used by several of the nationwide tournament series. The one major national league that doesn't use it has their own system. Both organizations issue player ID cards with the player's photo, name, APPA serial number and other pertinent codes and info. Players MUST be registered with the APPA or NPPL to play in these events. Part of the reason for the system is that the APPA database tracks a player's career. For example, if you have played X number of events in Division 3 (typically a 4-6 year advanced player) you can't guest for a Division 1 rookie team. APPA is on site at major events to monitor all participants. It also tracks your major suspensions and ejections if these carry over into next events or seasons. Your APPA card also serves as an ID for access to player restricted areas such as team staging areas and MUST be carried at all times.

Other events, particualarly big games or scenario games (the pb equivalent of an Op) issue ID cards for each event (most event cards do not have a photo). Your state photo ID is used in card creation and your card is used to track your accomplishments or infractions throughout the day. Refs punch your card for violations, with three strikes you're out. If a player is caught cheating and tries the "I lost my card" excuse, they have to A) go back to registration, show their state ID and have the infraction noted there, and then B) pay for a replacement card (often $20) or no more play time.

Both systems have worked smoothly at well run, organized events.

Before everyone gets all riled up, let's wait for Matt to announce it officially. This isn't something we thought up 5 minutes ago.

I'd be up for volunteering to write verification questions based on game rulebooks if an event host wants. Basically, player goes to a site to register for the event. Player has to navigate a series of pages with a multiple choice question on the bottom of the page that is answered somewhere on that page. If the player answers correctly, they get to go on to the next section of the playbook. At the end of the playbook, the person is given the link to register.

That way, players register as individuals instead of +1s. They have to read the pertinent event details in order to register. There is no drama forum postings to wade through. And event hosts can verify that someone actually read (or at least skimmed) the playbook before signing up. Too easy. It'd take me a few hours per event. And I'm sure I'm not the only (or even the best) person that could do this.

I'm interested to see what this is.

I can support it as long as it's run by a collection of different individuals (board members) and not all rules/memebers are associated with one team.

I would like to chime in and say that the individual players outnumber the team players so I hope there is a way to incorperate them somehow like maybe "house teams" to include them on.

Also players on teams can also be problem players and we can't assume that because your not on a team, you're not a rule follower and don't read handbooks. I'm not on a team and can do both.

Personally I like the idea of a league and having a players card with your call name and all that, it should be then put into a data base that hosts can view and watch the players that are repeat offenders, it should also have your real name and info with that file. I don't like that chesty's league is based on age not current teams. I don't like the idea of all the existing teams being broken up. If I have to choose between being in CAG or a league I will choose CAG. We do our own monthly trainings and I don't have time to go to yet another. I believe the fields should have the rules and regulations posted so that all players can read them there as well as on AP. I don't mind when someone signs up with a +1, but they should state who they are, first name only is okay with me. End of rant. Thanks for listening.

Indeed. A league should not be in charge of reorganizing teams and creating training events for them. Teams can handle that themselves. We only need a league to keep track of players and their history, so hackers can be abolished.

Chesty may have addressed this stuff in his "more info" that we are waiting for. I think we should wait to hear him out...and then we can bash it for being horrible ;).

Agreed 100%. Abolishing hackers is more important than anything, but not sure if a league is necessary. Guess I'll wait for more info.

What is more important than abolishing hackers is having a good organized community in case California comes north.

I seriously doubt California will invade Oregon. And if they do we can fight them off, they don't have any guns.

Ultimately, Rick, it's up to you. Choose a system that works for your games. You can't know if it will work unless you at least try it. You won't get everybody on the same page here, it's hopeless. You have lots of experience hosting games, you would be the best judge of what type of registration method works for you and weeds out the undesirables. The community will never agree on a solution.
