Video Capturing Gear

Postby Ventura » Wed Jun 01, 2011 4:09 pm

I was being told about these video recording sunglasses for around $20 today, and what came into my head was using them for airsoft.

Seems like a cheaper way to record matches in the field. Obviously sunglasses won't protect you very well in CQB scenarios, but for distance games these might prove to be worthy.

Granted, the video quality may not be as good, but it is cheap.

Thoughts?

Sunglasses do not equal safe. Maybe under a paintball mask...or somehow remove the cameras and put them somewhere else...on a decent pair of safe eyewear.

While this is sometimes true, there are many sunglasses out there that are impact rated... such as Oakley.

Most AP related games only allow goggles that hold up to ANSI impact standards, regardless of indoor or outdoor scenarios.

I supposed if you rocked these over some acceptable goggles it would be okay.
Would look pretty silly though.

:edit: beat me to it.

Regular prescription glasses are NOT acceptable as safety eyeware. Must meet ANSI Z87.1 standards and wrap around the face.

A go pro is the best way to record first person footage. safe, much more versatile, records in HD, and they are waterproof. cause you know april showers bring may..showers...and then more damn showers

ContourHD. And I think the point he was trying to make is that it's not noticeable and it's cheaper than commercial alternatives.

Ya I guess so, but i kinda shot it down too fast because i noticed it probably wasnt the ANSI standard. It still looks cool for anything else though. Like 1337 spy stuff, or CIA loadouts, lol

Awhile ago I remember finding a camera that was around the size of a lazer pointer. Can't remember how it was positioned but I think it was suppose to fit on the rim of a helmet or attached to goggles. I might have to find it again because I want to buy it.

For a nifty neat SD cam, mount this sucker with scope rings...

640x480 is fine for YouTube, and it's by far cheaper than any HD camera that's worth a crap. $41, I may get one myself.

I bought something like this....
Took me 5 minutes to take it out.
Tried them on.
Put them back.
And shipped them back for a refund (which I got, but lost a few bucks shipping).
They don't fit, they fall off (a big no no for airsoft).

Junk.
Save your money.

Thinking about buying those mini camcorders that come in keychains and stuff (will link to eBay later) and dissecting it and super duckfuck tape the hell onto my goggles, providing an awesome 1st person view.

The Keychain HD ones are the best cheap cost. but they are not waterproof and suck for controls. Tachyon will soon be releasing their OPS line of cameras designed specifically for Airsoft/paintball and have a mount that attaches to your rail. They also have mounts for them for goggles and helmets.

Someone should try two different camera views on a helmet, and find a way to make it a stereoscopic 3D airsoft video.

Those tachyoninc OPS look cool. It even comes with a hard case, so no broken lens'. I may have to buy one for my birth day. *starts day dreaming*
