Question about tracers and tracer units

Postby Patrick750 » Tue May 31, 2011 5:10 pm

What is the most effective way to illuminate your tracer round? special mag, barrel extender, light them up manually then feed them? I'm leaning more towards barrel extension because it looks more tactic00l and there seems to be more choices and variety. Also what would be the best tracer round? Does one shine brighter then the other? also do you recommend using 100% tracers in a night game as your ammo or mixing them with your other, non glowing, bb's? Doesn't the military use a tracer every 10th round as their "tracer protocol"? I use mainly semi auto so IMO all tracers would be more effeciant because if i get 2 non tracers when im only taking one 2 shots it becomes ineffective, catchin' my drift? Any help is appreciated

I think the best the best choice for a tracer unit is the kind that screws onto the front of the barrel. Green tracer bb's glow the brightest. Might aswell just use all tracer round. This way you know where every shot is fired. Plus people tend to call their hits more durring night games. When they're shot with a tracer round.

I have HUTUs in all of my guns, most effective and cheapest way to illuminate tracer rounds. They do infact illuminate the BBs better than the mock silencer style because you can run the LEDs off your main battery making then illuminate brighter.

I will be at Lords of War III, if I see you there I'll be glad to give you a "starter kit", with 3mm Blue LEDs, resisitors, and JST connectors or Bullet connectors.

I'd also vouch for the silencer tracers. They are much more powerful than most hop-up or magazine tracers.

As for mixing them with regular rounds, I like to use 3/4 tracer to 1/4 regular. The tracers help you aim and for the most part get them to call their hits, but regular bbs can really help snag people who like to get it on Matrix style (aka dodge tracer rounds).

Oh, and tracers don't mix well with semi-auto. The only time I'm ever caught using full auto is with a tracer, as semi auto makes it easy for the other team to see and avoid your shots (unless you have a good trigger finger).

My son and I run a tracer every 3rd or 5th shot when we're using mid-capacity.

Every 5th round for mid-caps
Every 3rd round for real capacity mags (30 rounders)

After trying several ways of shooting tracers...it seemed to work the best that way. We haven't used the magazine type tracer systems or the hop-up tracer mechanisms, yet.

Hutu's are definitely something i will mess up...badly... Although i do appreciate your willingness to give me that "starter kit", nec, but i don't thing i'll be wanting it. How long after a bb illuminates does it stay illuminated? I might consider taking the poor mans route and using my LED flashlight to illuminate the bb's before hand. Unless of course they go dim to quickly. I'd be a little disappointed if i'm forced to buy a barrel extension, they seem really pricy for what they are. (despite in my first post saying thats what im leaning towards, lol)

GIDs only stay illuminated for 1-2 seconds.
If the HUTU thing isn't your thing and the barrel extensions are too much, you may want to look into the 3-in-1 Madbull Hop up unit. They only make them for M4s and they are really nice hop-up units.

The barrel extension ones are really easy to install and use but after being on the other end of one, you can clearly see where the person firing it is at because the bright strobe that flashes.
You could counter that the tracer bbs will lead back to you anyways but the flash is a lot easier to see in the dark than the glowing bbs.

Food for thought if that matters to you.

They're $50. That's nothing, really. They glow long enough that you can look down at the ground and see BBs that are still glowing laying there after they've been shot at you.

I heartily recommend tracers. They're fun to shoot. My buddy and spent about an hour last weekend shooting them at each other and in the air for a group of drunk folks. they thought it was awesome.

Hmm, i guess i have to look beyond ASGI before saying there isnt a cheap tracer unit. I don't really want a night game only gun. Even though it will mainly be used for that i still want it used in the day if need be.

I have a madbull Tracer works great.
I also have a G&G Tracer that works awesome it comes with rechargeable batteries a wall plug to charge it and in full auto it keeps up with ever bb.
Green Tracers bbs can be seen coming and going but red only can be seen going, the enemy never see it coming.
Straight Tracers bbs are the only way to go it look awesome in full auto.
